Journal still inplies a book to me.

Blog is more acurate. Also a "journal" is something 14 year old girls use. A blog is something people post on the internet through. If you are trying to sound authoritative or lagitimate and profesional (in the case of a site like this one) blog has that feel. Blog inplies public where journal inplies personal.
