I say it's a three way tie between Mxpx, Blink 182, and the Descendants.
If I absolutely had to choose I would have to go with the Descendants, but if you're talkin' albums then MxPx definitely gets it for putting out the timeless and flawless "Life In General"; that shit is Pop-Punk perfection.

I never even heard that band considered as pop punkt o be honest.
If I had to choose some kind of pop punk three way, it would be Screeching Weasel, The Descendents, and the Queers. And it would always end up being The Descendents as the clear winner.
Mainly Descendents, as everyone else said.

Oh man. APO is a fucking GREAT band. I love those guys. I first got into them when they were known as "Cooter" , and I highly, highly recommend their album "Don't Look Up"; it's fantastic. I was fortunate enough to meet them at the one and only show that I went to of theirs. I handed them my band's unfinished demo. Hahaha. Chris, whom I handed the CASETTE to, probably just chucked it because me and the guys couldn't finish up the vocal stuff in time. Hahhahahaha. Anyhoo, that was literally a dream come true ( I actually dreamt about two weeks prior to the show, before I knew it was going to happen, that I would see and meet the Starting Line; APO opened and pretty much stole that show).

I just went to the Descendents web site; did you know of this? How fucking sad: " We're very sorry to announce that founding member of The DESCENDENTS, and close friend Frank Navetta passed away on October 31, 2008 after becoming ill over the course of a few days. This is obviously a huge loss for the DESCENDENTS family. His contribution to the band, and to music in general can not be overstated. Frank will be truly missed. We will share information about memorial services when we find out."
I obviously didn't know this guy or anything, but I imagine that the guys in the Descendents are a little fucked up over it. It would suck to lose someone close to you in such rapid succession. Fuck that.

I just wanted to add an example of that phenomenon; look at MxPx. You can totally tell that they went out to be this kind of sunny pop punk band, but, in addition to their age and experiences at the time, being from Bremerton, WA caused the sense of melancholy that "Life In General" has throughout it. It rains allot here in the NW. Haha.

Never liked NFG. Everyone tells me they are a great band because they are a gateway into hardcore, but I kind of missed that whole thing.
Well, I can kind of see why some people would say that. Chad certainly fronted Shai Hulud and, I'm not entirely sure about this, but I think Steve was doing something in the hardcore realm before he joined NFG.

In 5 years from now everyone will be listing Dillinger Four as their #1.
Right now though, Decendents are a good choice... The Ramones are still up there... but seriously name one Screeching Weasel or Face to Face album that you don't like.

They wouldn't be the first or the last band to cover an R&b song. Neither was it their big moment.

It amazes me how many people confuse pop-rock with pop-punk.
Some of my fave pop-punk bands, old and new, most of which have been mentioned by people who know what they're talking about.
Screeching Weasel, Descendents, The Queers, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Ergs!, The Steinways, Dillinger Four, ALL, Samiam (Some of their stuff is pop-punk, some not. But it's all great), many more obviously. Descendents are probably my fave out of all of those.

When I think of Blink 182 I think of the album "Dude Ranch"; they sounded nothing like Green Day on that. They're in vicinity of each other genre wise, but I still think that Blink sounds a bit different than GD. I can see why you say that though.

blink was influenced more by poppy music. Green Day has been and still is much heavier. Both still fall under the realm of pop-punk though.
