Second of all, the issue that I have with U2 isn't that they're bad songwriters, it's that they're bad musicians. The Edge slaps some reverb and echo on the ol' guitar and all of the sudden he's invented this unique and defining tone. I don't think there has been a band as big to be as bad at their respective instruments in the modern era.

Ultimately, I'll say The Gaslight Anthem because, although I really like what they've done so far, I'll be god damned if the most promising music scene is out of New Jersey.

But Morello hasn't created a unique sound, he's created a unique style. There isn't anything terribly interesting about The Edge's guitar-playing because anyone could have found a delay setting that they liked and made it their own. SRV had his own tone, but knew that that wouldn't suffice so he kept working on his technique. I think The Edge became recognized so abruptly that he was sufficient with his talent level when really it isn't anything special.

you're right, when i think of "overrated", i think of bands or people that are constantly thrown into the lime light. Most of the time, these are younger bands people that cater to a certain demographic.

Being overrated to me means that the individual is gaining popularity because of themselves personally, NOT because of they're work. Examples would be Megan Fox, the only reason people like her is because she is pretty, she cannot act for shit. She is famous because she is hot, period.

Another big one would be Fall Out Boy, more notably Pete Wentz. All these teenie boppers think he is the best thing in the world, and unfortunately, he is dragging FOB into the mix. Just look at their promo pictures, who is always in front? Without Wentz im sure FOB wouldnt have all this trash talked on them and people may just like them for their music and not just for one member.(i dont like FOB btw haha)

Yet another band that the majority of people who like them is because of all the antics surrounding them. Or because of one certain band member judging by appearance rather than talent. WAAAY back in 01-02 got them some notice from the TBS drama.

Other than that, i dont know why most people like them. They have a couple good songs on each album but thats about it.
