For me it's Boat Trip with Cuba Gooding Jr.

See, im my opinion, the most overrated movie of all time has to be Snow Dogs. After being hailed by critics as Cuba Gooding Jr's return to form, it ended up just being a huge steaming piled of sled dog shit. Even Sisqo's compelling performance in a supporting role couldn't save this movie from being a complete waste of 8 dollars.

Sunset Blvd. I was going through old movies, trying to get my fill of the classics, and while I liked most of them, I absolutely HATED Sunset Blvd. I'm sorry, but I just could not stand that movie. Everything about it felt bad and wrong to me. How it's considered an all time classic, I have no idea.

Donnie Darko - Movie is fucking terrible.
The Godfather - Forgive me, but I didn't get nothing out of this film.
This year:
The Dark Knight - Still a good film, but way overrated.
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button - At least with TDK I can understand that it has some quality about it. Benjamin Button on the other hand... It really does pain me that this film gets so much love.
Three years ago I also would've agreed with anyone that said Citizen Kane. But upon watching it again about two months ago I've completed changed opinions and now think that yes, it is a masterpiece.
I also think both Truffaut and Wes Anderson films are overrated. Don't get me wrong, but great directors. But I really don't get a lot of enjoyment out of their stories.

maybe slumdog - not the others. wall-e for an animated movie is outstanding. think of it that way. also the simplicity of the story with it still being able to resonate is great. i wouldn't think memento is even to lauded so i can't see how it could be "overrated". its just very clever, and i think you almost have to agree with that....

There were some cute moments, it looked great, but I thought it was kind of boring. They could have kept the same story/message and made it more engaging. Half the time nothing was happening but Wall E running in fucking circles.

I also think both Truffaut and Wes Anderson films are overrated. Don't get me wrong, but great directors. But I really don't get a lot of enjoyment out of their stories.
I agree with Anderson completely (Royal Tenenbaums is the only film of his I really enjoyed, and it wasn't spectacular), and Truffaut to some extent. His films are pretty hit or miss for me; liked 400 Blows & Fahrenheit 451, disliked Shoot the Piano Player and Jules and Jim.
I think most Pixar movies are overrated. Especially Wall-E. :/
I have so many problems with Wall-E. The anti-consumerist message was so heavy-handed and over-the-top (way, way too preachy), as pointed out above, Wall-E didn't do shit, the love story was weak. Boring movie. Finding Nemo was overrated, too, so were the first two Toy Stories (not when I saw them as a kid, obviously, but watching them now I'm not really a fan). Loved Ratatouille and The Incredibles, though. Monsters, Inc. was ok, pretty MOR.

Fair enough.
I know that when the credits rolled all I could think was "holy fuck, a robot with like 2 words of dialogue just out-acted 90% of working hollywood."
As for Wall-E running in circles, it is a kids film after all. I thought it kinda made sense for the robots to be stupid though. The last thing youd want is them realizing theyre waiting on blobs of fat and thinking "fuck this!" and over-running the ship.
Just my two cents.

Haha I dont hate it, but its not nearly as good as it thinks it is, if that makes sense? I get the impression that the film-makers thought they were doing something so incredible when they made it that it never quite lived up to.
Saying that I was appauled when I saw it in the cinema purely because in the scene after Thandie Newton has been molested by Matt Dilon and does the "parody"(I say this loosely...) of a slaves voice someone in the theater stood up and shouted racial obscenities as loud as they could. Im not going to post what it was as I dont fancy getting reported for it. Haha.

Oh and just because everybody else has thrown in their opinions on it, Citizen Kane is revered the way it is for a reason, its really that good. Into The Wild. Jesus H. Christ its boring as all hell and the celebration of the man's life is just ridiculous. He was takenout because he was took quick to turn one more damn page? seriously? Screw that. He wasn't something to admire or even an interesting story concept.
Gran Torino - I get it, he's a legend and I truly appreciate what he accomplishes on both sides of the camera, but the hype around this film has left me in a stupor. Dirty Harry on a pension my ass.
Apocalypse Now - Yea, went there. The flaws with this film are jsut too much for me and yes the idea is great. but the original they ripped it from had such a better flow to it. This was an accomplishment in film making, but not in film.

Oh, also, Lost in Translation. I don't care who your father is, that doesnt make you a great director. Sophia Coppola needs some serious work on directions and to be taught there are more than 2 camera angles for every damn scene.
Ahh thats great!! I really did not enjoy the direction in this film either. I felt it made the film really dull and drug it down.

Tropic Thunder was fantastic. Best comedy of last year, probably one of the best movies, period. Such a good Hollywood satire.
Haha.
not sure if your serious or not but yeah i thought it was completely over rated...trying too hard and not nearly being as smart/important as it thought it was. it was a decent movie ill give it that but i really dont think it deserved winning best picture- but hey im sitting here oscarless and broke so what do i know
i'm with you, the message is good but if only they didn't shove it down your throat and use such ridiculous and unrealistic scenarios and characters to do so.
i know some of the most racist people around and they don't even act like they do in this film.
Really!? I enjoyed crash I thought it was amazing? What turned you guys off to this film?
The main points are made here; it shoves its message down your throat in ridiculously implausible scenarios. It tries way to hard to be meaningful and fails, but the main thing I have against it:
It beat out of the far more deserving Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture, in one of the craziest clusterfuck moments the Oscars have ever achieved. Brokeback Mountain is an absolutely fantastic film, and Crash was a decent one, but in hindsight I can't stand watching now because it deserved best picture that year no more than Revenge of The Sith did. Its an alright movie, it tries way to hard.

pineapple express, tropic thunder, step brothers were all extremely mediocre comedies this summer...none of these movies were out of this world funny, and all three of these movies had luls in it where you'd ask where are the laughs.
but i will say for most over-rated...
forgetting sarah marshall. ummm, was this movie supposed to be funny or just a romantic comedy? Because I was under the impression that it was a comedy first, and romance second, but boy was I wrong. Like I dont remember what I found funny in this movie, ESPECICALLY after the first 30 minutes. It was sappy, corny, and a very predictable romantic comedy. Replace Jason Segal with Matthew McCoughnay and then you're getting a very basic romatic comedy.

But I'll admit that I am a little biased because I'm a fanatic about Veronica Mars. But she managed to pull off a completely different role than what I was used to, and it was believable even though the whole time I was a total fan-girl and was thinking "OMG! It's Veronica Mars! SQUEE!"

The Godfather.
I understand ya man, haha, I mean I know its an innovative movie, i'll give it that much, great cinematography and all, but i've never even finished it just cause it drags, I dunno I dont understand what ppl find so fascinating about mob movies and tv shows!?!?!, never seen Scarface or watched the Sopranos, I mean I know the Godfather was a huge step away from the classic "film noir" "YOU GOT THE MONEY SCHEEE???" type mobsters, but honestly, I find those alot more entertaining, i dunno maybe its politically incorrect nowadays, I dunno, I find the whole doofy italian in a jogging suit more offensive if you ask me, but whatever.
Anyways, anyone who wants to say that we who couldnt get into the Godfather are idiots, well I'll say this much in my own defense, you could accuse me of having a short attention span, and that might be slightly true, BUT I have watched My Dinner with Andre from BEGINING to END and followed it all the way through(for anyone who hasnt seen its a 2 hour dinner conversation between to friends, shot almost entirely in reel time, with practically no cuts) So yeah hahaha

Berlin Alexanderplatz was originally a mini-series, sure, but it's pretty commonly regarded as one continuous film these days. I mean, Alexandre Dumas' novels were originally serials, but that doesn't stop anyone from calling The Three Musketeers a novel (bad example, I know).

How so? He has absolutely no acting ability whatsoever. Not to mention the fact that his brand of comedy has been stale for ages yet he continues to play the same character again and again, not unlike Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell. The difference is that the latter two possess a comedic range that actually extends beyond dick and pot jokes, and have just enough honest acting ability beyond their goofy exteriors to make them worth watching.

i didn't say he's a great actor, i said he's likeable. i can see people getting tired of him, i just find it hard to see why someone would hate him. and his humor is much more dick and fart jokes, he's great at improv and he knows how to use random film and music references effectively.

Oh, I was watching it at home and I'd already only got through 15 minutes of it the first time around. I gave it another shot because of the girlfriend thinking it was "the funniest movie ever." which is obviously a huge fail of a statement.

I heard those exact words from several people, so maybe I walked into it with too high of expectations. It was okay but definitely nothing spectacular.

i thought the same thing. the trailer made it look fecking spectacular with paper planes. sadly, it didnt live up to the hype, but i thought franco was brilliant. Rogan just bothered me, and so does that other Danny guy who was in it. I dont think he is that funny in this movie or Tropic Thunder.

I'm not going to go into detail. Urgh. Honestly, just thinking about David Lynch films (of the 2 I've seen, which are supposedly his best) makes me cringe. I don't think there was even one thing I liked about Blue Velvet or Mullholland Drive.
Oh man. I can't even find words.

I heard Tropic Thunder wasn't all that good either.
On the subject of bad comedies, I saw the Heartbreak Kid (w/Ben Stiller) the other night. I had never heard of it but it was ridiculous. I rolled over and fell asleep before it ended. I can't stand that kind of comedy where everything seems to go wrong. It's been done and it was done best with Stiller, but I think it's time he moved on to something else.

Wow, you're a bright one.
Click. All my friends loved it. It was awful.

Why you would group these two movies is beyond me. And if you can't appreciate Blue Velvet, you deserve to watch nothing but movies like the Click.

On the subject of Seth Rogan, I was pretty disappointed with Pineapple Express. I don't know what exactly, but it was definitely lacking something.
I agree. I didn't think it was that great. Neither was Zack And Miri Make A Porno. I was disappointed by both movies. :-(

Well I didn't mean that they were on the same level. Click is obviously not known as an excellent movie, but the number of people I know that consider it good surprises me.
And Blue Velvet is just one I randomly thought of. I never said it was a bad movie, it was just hyped up for me, and I didn't think it was as amazing as everyone seems to make it out to be. Excuuuuse me.

easy
scarface was just an action movie... its not special
and blow was dumb. i know its a true story but seriously?
the only people i know who watch these movies are :
every rap artist on cribs
people who are stoners and find drugs "interesting" but in all actuality only like it bc it has drugs
people who are trying to fit in with said groups of people

I agree. Unlike you, i did actually like the film, but I find it absurd that it's hailed as one of the greatest of all time.
A deceptively hollow movie...
I'll put my vote in for two completely mediocre movies that one Best Picture: Chicago & Million Dollar Baby.

I agree with Million Dollar Baby.
Magnolia. WAAAAYY too fucking long.
Superbad- I laughed twice. Sure it wass humorous but it wasn't funny.
A few others I forgot.

Citizen Kane.
I used to think this too. But after studying this film and film in general a little bit more and hearing Roger Ebert's commentary on the film, I dunno, i think it's seriously a work of genius.

Boondock Saints.
I think you were the first actually, and I agree 100%. Everyone talked it up, especially when I got to college. I thought it was horrible. The acting was bad, the script was terrible and overall it just felt very "cheesy".
'300' is another that I wasn't a fan of. I really really REALLY wanted to like this movie (the trailer made it look awesome), but in the end I thought it was a mediocre action flick. I still have high hopes for Zack Snyder and 'Watchmen'.
'Disturbia' is another one that I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I know it isn't considered a masterpiece by anyone, but everyone I talked to said it was good. The first 2/3 of the movie were decent, but then it just turned into a sloppy attempt at a slasher film. Shia LaBeouf played his part well, but the movie wasn't good.

maybe I need to try and watch those movies again. But just thinking about sitting there and watching it again freaks me out cuz of how bored I was the first time.
