I'm looking for suggestions on some metal bands to check out.
To get a since of my taste, here are a few current favorites: Opeth, Lamb of God, Watch Them Die, Amon Amarth, Meshuggah, Origin
Children of Bodom. but you probably know them
Sonata Arctica
im not a big metal fan really... so those'll be my 2 for input

stampin' ground, dark tranquility, devildriver (suprisingly good considering their singer used to be in coal chamber), GWAR (their new stuff may not sound like the stuff above but their new record is really good, you may like it), nile, evergrey, hatesphere, into the moat, between the buried and me, mastodon, the red chord, machine head (ignore anything from the albums the burning red and supercharger), the black dahlia murder, bloodbath, mnemic (like fear factory), old soilwork, old in flames, strapping young lad (you'll really dig them), trivium, 3 inches of blood, glass casket, locus factor, the number 12 looks like you (metal-ish)
Godflesh (http://www.godflesh.com/), Carcass (http://tatooine.fortunecity.com/blish/125/carcass.html), Jesus Lizard (http://members.tripod.com/~jesuslizard/)
Municipal Waste (http://www.earache.com/bands/municipal_waste/navigation/biography.html)

you should check out about 95% of the bands that call themselves hardcore because they're really metal.

i was going to but i figured it kind of went without saying.
i said nile instead... that's pretty damn close to slayer musically.
Haha, their Sting cover kicked ass
it was a police cover.
but john mayer does it better.
i love machine head though, they're my fav metal band but those two albums are just shameful.
