Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart are 'classics' worldwide. There's 'Classic Rock' stations for The Beatles, Elvis, etc...

What makes music 'classic'? what about this scene specifically, what could be considered classic in the pop-punk scene, or the hardcore scene? Will any of our generation's music be classics 50 years form now?

what makes the music you listen to loved and enduring?

Obviously. Of course it'll probably be really terrible shit like Coldplay or whoever, but of course there are albums today that will be considered classics.

Time is definitely the main indicator i feel. It shows the lasting power/value of an album, the influence over other artists/genres, which could be an indicator of whether or not the album/artist was groundbreaking. And if it's popularity still lasts for example The Beatles and Bob Dylan are still as popular today as they were in the 60s.

I think that classics tend to be what was popular at that time, good or bad.

Radiohead in general will be considered a classic, I'm sure. And Kid A and Ok Computer will be their hallmark albums, so far at least.

In the Aeroplan Over the Sea gains more and more acclaim as time goes on so I think it'll be a considered a classic twenty or so years from now.

Any album that can be specifically pinpointed as responsible for a shift in popular music or culture, such as The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, Michael Jackson's Thriller, or Nirvana's Nevermind.

Why popular music or culture? Lots of classic albums only had an influence on underground music, or very little on popular music as a whole. Unless you're using "popular" in this instance to encompass all modern music?

i think he is saying it turned the mainstream spotlight on them and their scene/style of music
classic albums are usual those of mainstream or cult success

I'm talking about a 'classic' in the grander scheme of things. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is a classic indie record but outside of the music scene not a lot of people know or care about it. The difference is the number of people affected by the music.
