There was a big argument at a party a few weeks ago as to what the "majority" would call the best Mario game ever. These were the options. Sorry no Mario Kart, lol.

HOWEVER, I do LOVE the Mario Kart games!

In that case, Super Mario Bros. 3, which is what I started writing in my first post, until I realized Mario Kart might be on your list.

I have two of them! Toys R Us for $25. lol. I didn't add the sports, kart, or multiplayer games. Just the straight up Mario "adventure" games.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is too hard to beat, but Super Mario Bros. is probably the one that comes to mind when I think of the series as the whole.

I used to think that SMB3 was too hard until I put it in the other night and beat it in one sitting. I didn't skip worlds or levels. It was a slight challenge but no where near as hard as I thought it was when I was little. I honestly don't think I had a game over once.

Nice. I always remembered the Bowser levels toward the end were such a bitch, but the actual boss fight was cake.

this is tough but i think everyone came to the same conclusion in the end...

the best system of all time was N64 (sorry kids)....and there was nothing like Super Mario 64 to get you right into the groove of the system. It was the best designed game as it offered different things to do for a variety of different levels. It was the first mario game that allowed you to do a variety of different movements, and it was just all around fun.

2nd place was the SNES one in my opinion, purely because it introudced Yoshii and it was so long, and they had a large amount of levels which was nice.

super mario 2 on SNES should be getting more love, it was a nice sequel.

Super Mario World gets my vote, but is closely followed by Super Mario Bros. 3!

01/16/09, 09:18 AM
All the NES ones are legendary, but I had to go with the third one, it was the most intricate and the stuff you had to do was incredible. The first one gets second place, ground breaking but just not as well scoped out as the third. The second one was kind of dark I recall, kind of weird, but still epic.

I'm surprised no one has voted for the GC one yet... it probably has to do with the Game Cube being the weakest system put out, but it was still a solid game.

I agree. I thought it would at least have a few votes. IMO, It was easily one of the worst Mario games but still a fun and well-made game.

fuck that game. super mario bros. 2 shouldn't even be considered a super mario bros. game. it was some other obnoxious game first and they took it and put mario sprites over all the characters since super mario 3 was taking too long to make.
fuck i sound like a douchebag gamer.
i don't play video games anymore i promise.

while I love smb, smb3 is the ultimate mario game, I could understand SMWorld slightly beating 3, but 64???????? I'm sorry, but the Golden Age of Video Games was Pre-Polygon based, Mario 64 you spend more time just dicking around than actually completing levels, thats what free skate on Tony Hawk is for, not Mario. It's sad really sad, 64's showiness over tradiontal platforms simplistic genius? 2-D 8-16 bit Mario owns all!!!!

Let me start off by saying I voted for SM3

However,

Mario 64 was an amazing game. It was made better by the fact that was the first time most people had played a 3D game. When it came time to vote for me it was between 64 and SMB3. Three won. Because of the simple fact that you can pick it up and play for five minutes or seven hours. You could play it with your grandma (which I did) or your girlfriend. It is way easier to get into and it is still a very diverse and complex game. Try handing Mario 64 to your 70 year old grandma. Some might get it but most will have a hard time.

In all honesty there has been no such thing as a bad Mario adventure game. Two is not great but its definitely still a fun game.

well honestly I dont even play video games anymore, with the exception of an old NES or arcade game, and I'll goof around with guitar hero when its available, I mean the last game(s) I remember being into were the Tony Hawk games. I pretty much lost all interest in anything new by the time the first xbox and gamecube came out, by that point, largely because the whole cinematic approach to everything just seemed, well not like a video game anymore, i mean they were starting to advertise games as if they were movies(which now, they all are) I mean it seemed cool at first when FFXII took that approach cause it had never been anything like that before, but by 01-02 I had completely lost interest. Which was funny cause I started college in the fall of 02, and EVERYONE was obsessed with medal of honor, halo, call of duty, & all these other games, and ppl wondered why I never wanted to play lol, I think i played the gta games a little just of morbid curiostiy and shock, cause i couldnt belive at how evil the games were lol

I'm pretty sure you can unlock him when you get a certain amount of stars. Not sure if you can ride him around tho. I think he is at the top of the castle or something.
