View Full Version : My day at the Chicago Warped Tour

bands i saw (in order, sortof):
all american rejects - we watched two songs. not bad.
hawthorne heights - one song. terrible.
mae - full set. karate chopping tight.
opiate for the masses - half a song. insane.
relient k - full set. pretty tight.
a willhelm scream - half a song. not bad.
big d and the kids table - some mid-song banter. funny.
horrorpops - one song. good w/ gwen stefani like go-go dancers.
my chemical romance - full set. alright. finally got in the pit. people were passing out left and right and the show had to be stopped a few times.
the starting line - full set. mediocre to shitty. for some reason ken was dragging the tempos on all the songs. you're not max bemis. you're not kurt cobain. just play the damn song and keep the tempo up. i caught a drum stick which was followed by many bro-fives of congratulations.
funeral for a friend - a song. so very very british. chim chim charoo.
the nillaz - 10 seconds. you thought rap metal was dead? so did i. the nillaz disagree. now bounce with the nillaz, bounce with the nillaz. (tommy, i recommend you download all their songs asap)
senses fail - a few notes of a song. garbage.
the offspring - got to hear a few songs while waiting for fall out boy. tight. one of the songs was DUI. even tighter.
fall out boy - full set. stood outside the pit to get a good listen. patrick sounded good but i realized that their old stuff sounds lightyears better live than their new stuff.
some shitty hardcore band before motion city - terrible. called us gay. is that even real? jumped into our crowd and was pelted by everything we had. 10 kids were watching this shit band while like 200 were watching the stage 2 feet next to them where motion city was setting up.
motion city soundtrack - full set. stole the show. best band of the whole fuckin day. ridic tight. so fun and so amazing. i turned the mosh circle pit into a skank circle pit.
----------------------------
that's it for the bands. i got a glimpse of emery. they were all wearing white robes. very christian. other than that i went with 2 of my friends. my lil sis came down with us and met up with her friends. tickets were sold out but my lil sis managed to fandangle her way in (which is like ridic easy to do at warped).
i was walking around and this group of kids called me over. this chick had a sign on her shirt that said, "i'm bored, kiss me." this guy just says to me, "she's bored." i'm lookin at her and realizing she's not good and also she probably has all types of herps by now, so i just whisper to the guy, "i have bad breath." they laugh and i walk away. if i could go back i would pull a todd, wedding crashers stylee, and give her the i kiss my finger and circle it to her face kiss.
i think for next years warped i'm just gonna sit in the pavilion and buy beers all day. whatever bands happen to play the pavilion are the bands i'm seein. oh yeah, i'll do this and wear one of my lil sis's homemade t-shirts that says, "hey fat girl don't crowdsurf."

yeah, i always start out warped with a great attitude. i'll be having tons of fun. then after a few pits and having to wait a half hour to buy a $4 bottle of water, i want to kill everyone. but then i chill for a bit and finish strong. it's a marathon, not a sprint.

the one time i was at warped...the thing that stuck out was how ridiculously expensive drinks were. I think i almost died of dehydration.

the people they were pulling out of mcr's pit were most likely dead or close to it. their necks were limp, it was scary.
oh yeah, i saw thrice in your sig and it reminded me that i saw a few of their songs. they were solid. my friend was in the pit for them and said it was ridic.

When Lostprophets played here a year ago, F4AF were supposed to warm up, but Matt was sick. Man, that would have been a great combo. Still a good show though.

Thrice tore it up in Cincinnati. Probably my favorite performance of the day. I had forgotten how great they are live. I now cannot wait for the new CD

I got to see Billy Idol at our date yesterday in Minneapolis. That guy is still in crazy shape for being 824 years old. He actually got cut off, which was strange. They were running behind schedule I think, so while he was still playing, all of sudden the Offspring starts playing on the other stage. So for a little while, they were both playing at the same time. This went on for a few songs. I'm guessing they pushed the Offspring to get going since they were behind schedule and they had to get everyone out of there by a certain time (Minneapolis has a curfew I think for kids under 18). I wasn't sure if Billy had gone past his 30 minutes or not, but still........it's Billy Idol. He was only on like 3 dates of the whole tour, too. If anything, just cut Senses Fail's set short, they played 3rd to last.
Thrice was obviously the highlight. They were the last to play. I was right up front and left completely drenched in mine and other peoples' sweat. It was pretty nasty, but worth it. The 2 new songs (along with everything else) were awesome live.
I loathe Billy Idol.

I know. They put on a great show.

I can't wait to see The Offspring this weekend in Detroit. Hell yeah. Hopefully they don't play too late in the day.
I was at the chicago show too and it seemed like everytime i went to the bishop stage (you kno, the stage that went back in time to stop the assassination of a senator which would have caused a holocaust for all muntants) it sounded extremely shitty. I think the funny thing is i was at the very show, but saw only a few of the bands you did. Srtung out, reggie, split habit, reliant k, horrorpops, wilhelm scream, dropkick, big d, mxpx, much the same, no use, gogol bordelllo, throw rag, transplants, deals gone bad, offspring, and a7x

yeah, i didn't park myself at one stage all day like some kids. i tried to sample alot of things. but that is the beauty of warped. two people can go to the same show and see totally different things all day. i wish i got to see reggie.
i like your style. i feel like you are more hardcore musically than me, but i think i could win in a fist fight. your thoughts?
On the topic of Lostprophets, they just split with their drummer, so Im guessing they'll take some time to get a new one before releasing a new album.

Reggie was great, and i forgot to mention i was able to see a bit of fluxuation at the myspace tent.
I think the big thing about my selection of bands was influanced by me being 23. Watching Mxpx made me feel like i was in 7th grade agai, i forgot how influencial they were to me. It was like falling in love for a second, probably third time. Same thing went for strung out, no use, and offspring.
as for the fist fight i say we set a date (maybe next year's warped tour) then we fight it out in the pit at dusk. We can bill the fight as the "mosh pit massacre'

again i'm diggin your style baby, i think you're a real cool cat. i'm 20 but i have the musical tastes of a 14 year old girl. most pit massacre is set for next years warped then. i'll make the shirts. on the back they'll say, "show good pitsmanship"
word
also, i like how the goth kids kind of have lost their identity so they show up at warped tour now. as well as any kid at warped wearing baggy jnco jeans.
i also saw like 20 too many maybe 50 to 60 year old biker dudes with no shirts, ink all over, pulled back grey ponytails. i guess this tour is just a freak magnet. hence my username.

Ill start making flyers, once we know the bands playing i say we pick someone playing late and it has to be good fighting music. Let's hope that social distortion plays, they have good fighting music (and stripping music too. if you ever go to Jimmy's there is a girl that uses rammones, buzzcocks, and social d for her stage routine.)

haha, i was just jokin around. i would have said very christian no matter what they were wearing. it would have probably been funnier if they were in thug attire.
raise the roof for jesus.
raise the roof for satan.

I had never been to a strip club before, but my firned was leaving for Iraq so we gave im a proper send off. We hit up 3 in the chicago heights area.
All the clubs in the city are watched to make sure they abide by the 'no touching' rule. so get out of the city, and get touched
info on jimmy's, yeah it was all contact and such (may be NSFW) http://www.stripclublist.com/c.asp?c=7634
also around there Club O. I would go to this building all the time for brithday parties when it was Photon (just a big place to play lazer tag). Its funny now as a strip club, they still kept the tower that you could snipe from. If there was someway to combine the two though, maybe have guns that you could shoot the clothes off.

agreed. It was awesome in Viva La Bam when Bam was hanging out with Billy Idol and cut a moonroof into his Lambo. What a crazy mofo...
Haha, yes! I used to go there to play Photon when I was younger (I used to live in Chicago Ridge). I had a birthday party there once. I hope I'm thinking of the same place. Did it have two main rooms for playing and there was an upstairs with arcade games and you could look down on the two rooms? There were little stations too where people could pay with quarters and sit there and shoot the people down actually playing the game. Photon ruled, I used to have my own pair of helmet/guns (cheaper version for kids) at home. You're the first person who I've seen that knows about it.
Wow, I live like 5 minutes from where you lived. the chicago ridge mall is turning to shit. Lt. Dan Band is playing ridge frst this weekend!
That is photon you are remembering. it was at first two rooms, then before it closed they made one room an all ages dance club.
