Some controversy has been coming up over the phrase "So help me, God" that most presidents choose to add in as they are being sworn into office. Some people are actually suing! Any thoughts on this?? Here's my question: Whatever happened to freedom of speech? If a person wants to add in a phrase that reflects their religious beliefs, so what?

There seems to be only one person suing, according to that article, and it doesn't seem likely that he'll succeed. I wouldn't start to feel worried about your freedom of speech concerning Christianity in America.
imagine if Obama coined the phrase, "So help me Allah" in his inauguration. shit would hit the fan. (and relax, I am not one of those people who thinks Obama is a muslim, nor would care if he was)
i don't really think twice about the "so help me god."
now what would be really cool is if he said "so help me flying spaghetti monster." talk about a curveball.

I wonder what the line is in Vegas on him saying that.
"If someone gives you 10,000-1 on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very.. rich dude."

i guarantee someone's betting on it.

If he did, he just might explode from teh cool.
As long as we don't turn into a theocracy, I'm fine with it lol.

I'm pretty sure there was a reason for the separation of church and state... the president should save his religious beliefs for when the entire country isn't focused on what he's doing.
By the way, benn10, we live in the same city.
I'm glad there aren't more important issues to deal with.

the fact that you're 14 makes anything you say meaningless.

That's illogical.

False. It is the essence of logicality.

I hate shit like this. At my brothers elementary school's winter concert a couple years ago, Jewish people gave the school shit about "Christmas Songs" being sung, like Holy Night and shit. So the school took all the Christmas songs out, while Jewish songs stayed in the show.
It's an absolute joke. If you don't like it, don't listen. Don't take away other people's freedoms and shit because you feel left out.
Edit: I just reread this and just want to point out I'm not singling out Jewish people, I'm just using a personal example. All religions have their Jesus freaks.
i don't give a damn either way

organized religion causes so many more problems than it does soultions. sure some people benefit from it, but most of the time it just ends bady.

And now, South Park Elementary presents the happy, non-offensive, non-denominational Christmas Play, with music and lyrics by New York minimalist composer, Philip Glass!

Christmas songs like Holy Night are infinitely more religious than Hanukkah songs. I know as a child I felt extremely uncomfortable when music classes sang Christmas songs like Holy Night. Just using a personal example though.
dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, i made it out of clay
and when it's dry and ready, with dreidel i shall play
The most religious Hanukkah song we sang was 'Light One Candle'.
DON'T LET THE LIGHT GO
DON'T LET THE LIGHT GO
DON'T LET THE LIGHT GO

I know, I can definitely understand that. I don't remember the specifics, but I'm pretty sure anything involving Santa was taken out too. If you're going to basically take songs out from one religion, why not do away with the whole concert?

By this logic Hitler's or Pol Pot's ideas would have more merit than mine because of my age...
Ignore him. You've shown more maturity and intelligence than most of the 20+ year olds on here.

That's pretty extreme and I don't agree with that. Nothing wrong with a bunch of kids singing about Frosty or Rudolph.
