Has anyone read any of his books? I really want to read Gravity's Rainbow but I've heard it's easier to comeprehend if you start with one of his shorter novels, in order to get a feel for his style. I think I'm going to pick up The Crying of Lot 49 today.

One of my friends back in college was really into him, he was an english major and I think he did his final thesis on him. I've always meant to read something of his but haven't gotten around to it

I have read Gravity's Rainbow and V . His books are some of the most conplex fiction I have ever read. Gravity's Rainbow was by far my favorite of the two and much easier to follow and comprehend imo

I've read The Crying of Lot 49.

I find his books really hard to follow and don't understand why they're so extremely praised. I've had Against The Day Sitting on my shelf for a long time, I'm only about 100 pages in.

I read most of Gravity's Rainbow. I still don't know what to think of it. Set aside plenty of time for Pynchon's stuff.

The Crying of Lot 49 is one of my favorite books of all time. Pynchon's pretty tough, but once you work through it, it's so worth it. I've tried to read Against the Day a few times, but its length gets too daunting so I just hug it and pretend. 49 is the easiest one to get in to (and finish), IMO.

The Crying of Lot 49 is great, but Pynchon is really difficult to understand without the help of someone who knows what they're talking about. It's very convoluted and complex.
