What have been the three? Spill Canvas, Gatsbys, and what else? I'm behind the times.

i think guitar solos are rad. however, i don't think in all genres of music they are necessary or even work. take a band like unearth for example..they are a hardcore/metal band. they shred all the time but have few solos. i love that about them. i think, a lot of the time, solos are pretentious and are the boring, stereotypical thing to do.

Yeahhhhh the great old songs with guitar solos. The only band I can think of right now that still does solos is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And I love it.

I find guitar solos very boring and very annoying, maybe its because i naturally hate metal.Just an opinion dont attack me for this :D

I actually wasn't really just talking about metal, I was more talking about rock in general.

Pop in some Weezer. Oh man, when I saw them live, they played an extended improv guitar solo during Death and Destruction. It pretty much made my heart melt.

That's a good CD--I just wish every 'metalcore' band would stop trying to copy At the Gates though. Necrophagist has some pretty cool solos too.

Just cause I listen to a lot of pop rock/pop punk doesn't mean I can't like metal too.

Kid Kilowatt

As I Lay Dying's solos are for pop punk kids. That isn't to say their music isn't enjoyable, but their music is to metal as The Starting Line's music is to punk.

Honestly, I'd like to see the metalcore scene purged, so that bands with substance will thrive.

I second this. Ozzfest was terrible, all shitty metalcore bands.

Their music really doesn't have the metalish flare to it but that's probably what I like about them.

why is it that when we think of solos we automatically think of metal....why cant rock just get some solo love

Rock does have some good solos, just not as good as the metal ones. ;)

Yeah, I think you probably could consider him one. You'd probably find him in the jazz section at any record store too. Metheny does some crazy stuff. I've got one of his live album, and he's just nuts, although I've never really been heavy into jazz guitarists, as I'm partial to saxophones.

did you hear them play "all bodies"?

that track has an awesome guitar solo too.

Ryan: my dad is huuuge into jazz guitarists. he tried to turn me onto them but i never got a chance to make copies of his cds before i moved out, he gave me a few al dimeola cds though so i break those out every now and then.

i know you tabbed the thing out and all, but still a good part of the song is just solos and to those who dont play guitar, a solo is a solo, and i dont have any shot at playing it even though i do play guitar. youre tab was very impressive

I am positive Jason has only called Spill Canvas album of the year. The rest were all "front-runner" or "candidate" or "one of the best."

Give him a break. He most certainly didn't call GAD album of the year - that was me.

I do miss the guitar solo. Some bands still use them but they are rare. Suppose ever since nu-metal solos have become uncool. A good solo just makes a song so much better. But do not fret, I believe that they will return (pun may be intended)

the solo to the acoustic version of a certain shade of green (the lounge verison) is fucking awesome. i love it. nothing special but it just sounds sooooo damn smooth.
