Deloused is the easiest to get into, but Amputechture is my favorite.

I'll second De-Loused In The Comatorium.

The Bedlam In Goliath is good too but I wouldn't start out with that one.

De-Loused in the Comatorium is one of the best records of the last ten years and definitely their most accessible.

Seriously? Every Mars Volta post I've seen on here - people always end up saying something to the extent of "Amputechture is so boring."

Nah it's got some of my favorite tracks on it, and it's a lot less boring then Frances the Mute.

I'll back Deloused as a great intro into them. Infact I would probably say just pick them up in the order they came out.

Cool, I also agree, I think Amputechture is a very underrated album.

Have to start with Deloused and just move through the chronological discography.

Amputechture is WAAY underrated. I haven't sat and listened to Frances as many times as I have Amputechture- they're quite comparable. Except Amputechture is significantly more interesting.

First time, I'd go for Frances the Mute. It has L'Via and The Widow, which are probably TMV's most accessible songs. De-Loused is freakier. Frances was my first album, too.

Not a big fan.

Amputechture > Bedlam > De-Loused > Frances.

All are incredible though, and for me there's a very close margin.

By and large I can't stand this band but they do have the occasional stroke of genius ("Televators," "The Widow")

everythign before the bedlam in goliath is good.

can't decide if which is better: DITC or FTM?

yeah, they're good songs, but two of the worst.

but i'm also not considering the 14 or so off their latest albums, those are horrible.

Oh shit man my bad. I thought I thought they were two of the best. Guess I was wrong.

I'd say Deloused is the best to start on. Frances the Mute is my personal favourite at the moment however, Cassandra Gemini is one hell of a jam.

But really, they're all great albums.

Frances>Deloused>Termulant EP>Amputechture>The Bedlam In Goliath>Scabdates

i used to be obsessed with them, but TBIG and scabdates made me hate them. i barely listen to the first three albums and EP anymore
