So what do you guys think of stuff like what Skull Disco is putting out, and Villalobos and Shackleton's recent habit of remixing each other? Is stuff like what Andy Stott, Claro Intelecto, etc. doing pushing Techno forward or is it just the same as the Dub Techno of the 90s with a new wave of artists? How awesome is 2562?

Burial's good, but not really what i'm talking about. A little too ambient, really. I'd highly recommend you check out some of the artists I mentioned above (especially 2562) if you like him though.

Throw some dubstep rec's at me please. Anything and everything. Essential classics, new records...anything. I am extremely interested in delving into this genre.

Get Kode9 & the Spaceape's Memories of the Future. Kode9 runs the label that Burial is signed to, Hyperdub, and Spaceape is a pretty sick MC (he also did some tracks with The Bug, check out his album from last year, London Zoo). Also try the above mentioned 2562's album from last year, Aerial, and Skull Disco's two comps, Soubdboy Punishments and Soundboy's Gravestone Gets Desecrated By Vandals. Also get Vex'd's classic album, Degenerate, and Skream's self-titled album or any of his Skreamizm releases.
Soul Jazz also released a good retrospective comp on Dubstep last year, Steppas' Delight. The Dubstep Allstars mixes are also good, they're up to six now, Appleblim (from Skull Disco!) did the most recent.

Never cared for The Bug, not sure why.
Distance and Boxcutter are worth a listen as well.

I didn't enjoy London Zoo when I first heard it, either, but one day it just kind of clicked for me. A lot of it is really Dancehall-influenced which I think even people into Dubstep have a hard time getting into at first unless they've already been exposed to it. My theory anyway, frankly I'm not even sure why it got as much press coverage as it did last year out of all the Dubstep albums that came out.
Boxcutter and Distance are both excellent recommendations. Milanese is another good producer if you're into Distance, they always remind me of each other.

I listened to London Zoo a good bit last year, then became bored with it. Still really like "Skeng," though. Benga's Diary of an Afro Warrior is another solid 08 dubstep release.

Indie blogs wanted the 2008 version of Untrue so they went with London Zoo, I suppose.
Never really associated Milanese with Distance, but I've moderately enjoyed Adapt and Extend.

I actually liked Benga's album at first, but then got bored with that, ha.
I get that most publications are eager to pick their token Dubstep album of whatever year, but London Zoo was just such a strange pick. You couldn't have gotten further from Burial's style of Dubstep (which is fairly accessible and easy to get into) if you wanted to. I really would've expected them to go with Skull Disco's compilation given what a big track "Death Is Not Final" was last year, not to mention the Villalobos association (since he's always everyone's token favorite Techno producer), and the love that gets piled onto that label by Dubstep fans. Speaking strictly in terms of EDM, what label has had more crossover success in two genres that critics absolutely love to write about than Skull Disco?
And now I feel like I'm talking too much about how much I love Skull Disco, so obligatory wobble-step reference: "Gone 2 Far" is a tune!

Also I think I just derailed my own thread into some sort of general Dubstep thread instead of what I actually intended it to be, but it's nice just to see some Dubstep fans on here.

Great album. London Zoo is all right too, I'll check out all the others. Thanks all!

Really into dubstep right now. Rusko, Benga, N-Type and Burial are my favourites.
Seeing Rusko DJ at the start of a drum and bass night in a few weeks. :-) Good to see some dubstep love on here!

I'm not really into dubstep but I have recommendation for you all. It's not really dubstep but.. His name is Trentemøller and he's amazing. You should all go listen to his album "The Last Resort", it's so good. I have never been into electronica at all but this dude is awesome! So, go listen!

Yeah, Trentemoeller is great, was listening to him the other night. He does kind of fit into this vein of really deep, dubby Techno, even if he isn't Dubstep. The Last Resort is great.
Supposed to see Rusko tonight myself, then Pangaea, MLZ, Stott, Intelecto and a few others tomorrow. Great weekend. :D
N-Type's Dubstep Allstars is one of my favorites as well.
