I'd really like to start recording songs with an electric guitar onto my computer, since I do most of my recording at home.
Does anyone know of some good not TOO expensive mics that can pick up guitar sound well?

Shure SM-57.
Do you have an audio interface or anything?

I don't believe I do.

The SM-57 is one of the best mics out there... It works pretty well for screamed vocals as well...
If you're also looking to record sung vocals, you would be looking for a condenser mic.

What setup do you have? If you don't have a really nice amp already, you'll be better off picking up some modeling software like Amplitube and plugging the guitar straight in...

EMU interfaces come bundled with Amplitube LE (a more basic version of Amplitube) which is what I use. I'd bet some other companies do as well. I don't know much about guitar tone, but according to Patrick I got a pretty decent sound out of it.
You'll need an interface to get the sound into your computer with any semblance of quality, and you'll need a sequencer program (many of which come bundled with a lot of interfaces) to do any kind of mixing on your computer.
