No one's mentioned Pivot, really good instrumental act. First record, Make Me Love You, is laid back post-rock stuff. Their most recent, last year's O Soundtrack My Heart, is much more electronic--which makes sense since they got signed to Warp.

Also Deez Nuts. I saw them once and they sucked. Alot. I can't see how all those hardcore gets loved them so much. I don't know, not a big Deez Nuts fan myself, but they seem to have a hugggge following on the DL around Australia.

I'd mention three more bands/people.
The Sundance Kids - their singer makes me ejaculate every time he opens his mouth, PERFECT live show, emoey, acoustic, poppy music, but damn good.

Yeah Hilltops are good and i don't mind some of Drapht's shit. But ultimately, i think the genre is quite repetative and the lyrics are always about getting drunk. Plus, the "Aussie" accent gets tiring

Totally agree with AAR putting on a way better show than FOB, been hoping they come back for a headlining show of their own...
Interesting music taste you've got, can't go wrong with some classic old school...been getting into a bit of metal lately, As I Lay Dying, Between the Buried and Me, etc..and a bit of the scene stuff, Underoath, Emery, A Day to Remember, anything that evokes musical talent ;)...and of course the greats like Muse and Thrice...and anything that's NOT rap...

Totally agree with AAR putting on a way better show than FOB, been hoping they come back for a headlining show of their own...
Interesting music taste you've got, can't go wrong with some classic old school...been getting into a bit of metal lately, As I Lay Dying, Between the Buried and Me, etc..and a bit of the scene stuff, Underoath, Emery, A Day to Remember, anything that evokes musical talent ;)...and of course the greats like Muse and Thrice...and anything that's NOT rap...
Yeah, go buy the Streetwise Scarlet album, I know a couple of the guys in the band, they need all the support they can get but they're great guys and work hard at it, pretty much impossible to make it in NZ these days...went and saw the Datsuns play here the other night, got to have a chat to a few of them, think they were happy to see some Kiwis in the crowd haha...

Back to the Aussie theme, why is it only the really bad Aussie bands I can remember...Savage Garden, End of Fashion, Empire of the Sun, the failed INXS reunion (which was never going to work)...suppose there was Silverchair, Powderfinger and Wolfmother...

Actually the guy from Wolfmother - his name excapes me - has just reformed the band with a new line up and possibly a new name. Pretty exciting stuff.

Wolfmother are still called that, saw them in feb at Sound Relief (one of the last bands i remember before being plastered), and they playin with Acca Dacca next yr... theyre still good, the band was Stockdale pretty much anyway, added a 2nd guitar, sounds good, its chunkier

Well they're not everyone's cup of tea but all tastes are different, didn't used to get into hardcore/metal but loving it at the moment, most people just hear screaming and think it's crap but there's tons of talented metal bands musically out there, people just can't get past the stigma...but we'll obviously agree to disagree to what we think constitutes good music...

The Datsuns are huge in Europe, we were surprised they'd even bothered to tour North America, judging by the tiny venue we saw them at, but least they're still doing well, haven't picked up on any other Kiwi bands doing well here, except Flight of the Conchords, they're freaking massive, usually the first thing someone says when we say we're from NZ...used to be LOTR but not anymore...

Has anyone heard any rumours about who's playing Big Day Out this year? Can't be too long until the release the first lineup?? Already preparing myself to be disappointed again and be saving my $150 on not buying a ticket but hoping they can organise a decent lineup this time...

omg did anyone see the spoof of straight lines on tv?! it was recently here in bris i saw it. so hilarious xD they change the lyrics to something like from "wake me up low with the fever" to "just because i wear so much make up" and there's more about how he's not gay coz he was with nat and that he's a "straight guy" instead of singing "straight lines". it was actually kinda scary but they did a really good job of taking the piss out of the whole song and video. at the end daniel hugs and kisses ben and chris. it's so funny :P
