I just noticed Newday said their Warner Bros. debut album is due in the fall. Interesting...

SONG OF THE WEEK: There's a lot going on in Taking Back Sunday's "Error Operator," available on the "Fantastic Four Soundtrack" (Wind-Up). Vocals by Adam Lazzara and Fred Mascherino careen off each other, as furious guitar riffs by Eddie Reyes and Mascherino battle for supremacy over Matt Rubano's urgent bass line and Mark O'Connell's crashing drums. It's a heady swirl of aggressive rock, anchored by a memorable sing-along chorus, that pushes the Rockville Centre quintet to new intensity. The band will celebrate certification of its first-ever gold album, "Where You Want to Be," with an opening slot at tomorrow's Weezer show at Nassau Coliseum before returning to work on its Warner Bros. debut due this fall. - Glenn Gamboa

Saosin did that because they think that.

However, majors LIKE to release in Q4 though I'm not sure why... or at least with popstars/rappers like Ashley simpson, 50 cent, etc.

Yeah I'm not sure why either...It probably has to do with that really big holiday that happen around that time. You know, the one where everyone buys gifts for each other? It's quite a big event really, it probably helps sell an extra CD or two.

Majors don't like to release debut records in the fourth quarter because all the heavy hitters release their albums due to it being xmas season (like someone before me said). That's way Saosin is delayed, but TBS is coming off a big record from an indie label and has alot of momentum so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a "sudden" fourth quarter release.

i see it the other way i guess, the fall is usually the most expensive time of year, with presents, traveling, and its also the most busy time of the year so i just thought that the amount of cds that are sold in the winter didnt make up for the cds that would have been consumed if they had been sold say. . march where the only holiday in march is St. Patricks day, and the most expensive thing in march is the green beer to get drunk off your ass. but thats just what i always assumed

Obviously.

I meant i didn't understand why majors would release all their stuff, and indies (or the major bands who are small) are delayed til after.

They have more competition by delaying then by releasing in Q4. Because we all know Halifax(i just chose a band I know could be released but is delayed til Q1) fans aren't the biggest fans of Ashley Simpson.

The average gift giver doesn't haven't an extensive knowledge of music and so they are going to go in the record store and buy whatever they think the person they're getting the gift for will like off the main racks in the store. That's why the big labels pack their big bands on the racks at xmas time.

I believe I've finally figured it out.

They assume an older audiance for these bands with their debuts to delay.

As opposed to say 5 year olds who wouldn't be going out and buying rock albums, they'd get them for Christmas.

That was just a metaphor but I hope you get it.

I can't believe people here are still talking like TBS are pulling a fast one and they could concievably put this CD out in two months. That would be the biggest marketing mistake ever.

Labels, major labels in particular, spend tons of money promoting CDs over a long period of time. If, somehow, doing the opposite and not hyping a CD actually worked, then i would assume that every label would stop throwing away their money on silly promotions and just pick a date and put the CD on the shelf.

And, OveriseFan, to answer your question, CDs by major labels are more likely to appeal to a mass audience. These are the CDs that are put on big display racks with colors and shit and stickers and the ones that have pins that the clerks wear. These are the CDs that are most likely to attract sales for gifts. Indie, or smaller market bands generally have a set fan base who are going to go buy their CDs. These CDs probably arent gonna be bought as gifts. If a parent is buying a CD for their child at say, Best Buy, they are going to be instantly stopped at the huge display with "hot new releases on sale", and will probably buy a CD from a band whose name they heard on the radio once, or that a hip cool salesperson told them was good. They arent going to go up and down the aisles sampling every CD until they find something that they think their kid will like. These smaller CDs rarely benefit from the holiday season, and will probably end up getting lost in the shuffle since there are a ton of CDs released around that time.

Yea, but you'd think indie's would benefit just as much by releasing in Q4?

I don't see the difference between people buying the c.d. in november with some getting it for Christmas, and people buying it in February, AND some still might need to wait til Christmas the next year(unlikely but whatever)

The way everyone in here likes Taking Back Sunday is like bipolar disorder. One week everyone will love them and say they can't wait for their new album. The next week, almost everyone will hate on them. "Tell All Your Friends" is one of those classic albums that they will most likely never beat. "Where You Want To Be" was definitely a sub-par album, but anything would be compared to "TAYF". So here they come with a 3rd album along the way. In my opinion, anything they release next will be better than "WYWTB"

Yea its not like WYWTB was a horrible record, it had 4 or 5 decent/good songs, with no real stand out tracks. TAYF was an album that was filled with great songs, and a couple of amazing (yes amazing) songs. I think people should have an open mind with respect to their next one and just hope for the best.

The bassist died in a freak accident during a taping of the Surreal Life 15. Taking Back Sunday is the kinda band that people have heard of, but just don't flock to... so its gonna be a promo cd... Everyone opening their christmas presents are gonna get coupons to best buy, and go down there and say, Hey, Taking Back Friday has a new album, and then they are gonna get a coupon that says taking back sunday, so they figure, close enough, and buy the album....

either way, the album will be good, but its not gonna go 11x Platinum

themookillman, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

haha, just kidding, I just always wanted to use that quote. thanks lol

if the new cd is anything like their last music video (in terms of quality) i'm sure they can forget actually staying with that major label.

the "musical update" will be them singing about what they've been up, singing telegram style.

everyone on this website is too hard on where you want to be. if you take that album by itself without comparing it to tell all your friends, it is a good album. you cant blame tbs for not living up to tell all your friends, since that album was so great.

shut up, that's not what this is about anymore.

We've gone over that a million times, some agree, some disagree, but we don't need to keep bringing it up

I asked about that today; there is no set release date yet.

I work at a major music retailer and we have new releases updated daily, and we have Dashboard listed as September 20th. I thought it was weird since theres been hardly any talk of a new record or any promotion.

I thought about the new album last night actually.

Wondering what was going on.

September 20th makes sense as it was set for "Late Summer".

yeah, I only wonder if they'd push it back even as close as a week, to avoid competing with Coheed. I'm sure the majority of Dashboard's fans dont listen to Coheed, but theres certainly a percentage of sales that Coheed could steal from them. I feel thats the reasoning behind the Thrice pushback, despite their complications with mixing.

im hoping a new song with maybe a tour announcement... that would be sweet..

There's no way their going on tour....Adam said in an interview in the Spring that there are fireworks on Coney Island or whatever beach they live near....and he would be seeing them every week...which means they've basically been home all summer besides the tour with Green Day in the UK which was something like two shows...it's very possible if they have new stuff written just not recorded...so its possible

Their last cd has left me wanting some more, I just don't think it will be. Musical Updates leave me very skeptical.

Taking Back Sunday (http://www.takingbacksunday.com) will be providing a "musical update" on their pureVOLUME site (http://www.purevolume.com/takingbacksunday) next week. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but stay tuned...

Couple quick comments:

In the newsday article where they comment about the debut this fall, it read more like they were going to work on recording it this fall which means it will probably be released in may/june 06.

Where You Want to Be is a good album, but nowhere near as good as TAYF. But it is very solid.

Error Operator is an excellent song and that is probably what the annoucement is about. Error Operator being put up on their PV site.
