Okay, I get it. I understand that you want to defend someone you're a fan of because they've been coming under fire since the news yesterday that Matt Skiba is collaborating with Jeffree Star. I get it, and it's okay.

But here's the thing, you can't change people's opinion of this. They've been to the myspace, gotten a taste of the guy/girl's aesthetic, and listened to the music.

I agree. I'm not too big on Jeffree Star because thats definatly NOT how he really spells his name. Some of the music is catchy, but can be really annoying. Im more of a Matthew Lush fan, for the sole reason that he is an animal rights activist, and he's pretty.

That person went to JS's SayNow, saw the reference to AP.net. Then they 1) created a AP.net account or 2) logged into their AP.net account that they never use and posted this thread. For a while I got really defensive about it because it honestly confused me how people still got it crossed after a clear-cut explanation, but mostly I'd just try to inform. I can't believe how hung up we all got on the simple use of a word. Having "emo" being used to describe Hawthorne Heights doesn't change how Pg. 99 sounds to my ears at all, you know? I'd rather call it hardcore and punk, because culture is going to use emo how it sees fit.

The only battle I would fight is on the ethics of music itself. That is, music purely as a commodity versus music as an art form that is often bought and sold. I wouldn't go as far as to say "DIY or Die" (because for some things it just doesn't work,) but having as little to do with people that are going to harsh on the creative aspects of things is always solid.

I mean for god's sake, he titled his last album "Cupcakes Taste Like Violence". How is this a masterpiece? His lyrics suck, he has done nothing to deserve it, and the whole world has done nothing to deserve this torture. All he does is get by on shock factor, thus why he starts fights and drama. Then he calls in his fans, lets call them Jeffettes, he calls in the Jeffettes and they do the fighting for him. No matter how bad their argument is, how little of a point they make, and how much they get their asses handed to them, Jeffree Star doesn't have to finish the argument he started because he sent in you Jeffettes. He has no musical talent at all, his 'singing', if you can call it that, is horrendous and is worse than nails on chalk boards. All he does is capitalize on the insecurity of preteen/teenage girls and scene/emo kids by using the factor that he is different so that the before mentioned groups will feel like he's like them. In truth, this has been done before, they just don't have to use it to make their career go. I can't believe people's music tastes have sunk down low enough to accept this as music.

I feel like it's time to admit that Brokencyde used to be a guilty pleasure of mine. Not so much anymore, but I can enjoy some of their stuff every once in awhile. Jeffree Star on the other hand is an egotistical, disgusting human being, and his "music" portrays it perfectly.

Also, I really don't see why 3OH!3 always gets grouped in with Brokencyde and Jeffree Star. Do people really think 3oh!3 are that bad? It's not pretentious like JStar, it's not repetitive or unoriginal like BC. And their lyrics aren't even on the same scale as either of them. 3oh!3's lyrics have much more depth and substance (now I am not calling them deep, just MUCH deeper than Jstar and BC). I can definitely see why people don't like 3oh!3 but I don't think they deserve half of the hate they get on here.

Exactly. There are amazing musicians, and then there's just catchy music. Usually the two don't overlap. Sometimes if you're lucky it does. But yeah 3OH!3 are far from brilliant, but their music is fun to listen to, and that's okay too. :-)
