A Cowboy Bebop movie was announced to be in the works back in July of '08 (an article about it here (http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/22/fox-developing-cowboy-bebop-live-action-feature-film/)) but according to Variety it's recently been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will be playing the lead role of Spike Spiegel.
Keanu Reeves is taking on another sci-fi mission for 20th Century Fox (http://www.variety.com/profiles/Company/main/2015516/20th%20Century%20Fox.html?dataSet=1 ). The "Day the Earth Stood Still" star is attached to topline a live-action bigscreen adaptation of the Japanese anime TV series "Cowboy Bebop" (javascript:zodInfuser.FillDescript ions('"Cowboy%20Bebop"');) for the studio.Reeves will take on the role of Spike Spiegel, an adventurous bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071.
It also goes on to mention that the creator of the show, Shinichiro Watanabe, along with others who worked on the show are going to be involved with the development of the project. It's also been announced that Peter Craig (who I've never heard of) will be penning the script.

And for those unfamiliar with the series I highly recommend checking it out, even if you're not particularly interested in anime
