I've been learning guitar for like two months and i'm having real problems when strumming alternately on the A,D and G strings, i find it impossible to do it without hitting the bottom E string and it's sooooo annoying, any suggestions?

block the high E string with the bottom of your hand or another finger. Dont worry, you will get the hang of it eventually.

Try some picking exercises.

E|-----------------00
B|--------------00---00
G|----------00----------00
D|-------00----------------00
A|----00----------------------00
E|-00----------------------------00

So every first note play a downstroke then play an upstroke. Work your way up the strings, play them open for now, then back down.

When you gain more control try doing it with chords, backwards and other positions etc.

I just mute it with either the top of my first finger (if I'm playing a chord on the A string) or slide my thumb (of my fretting hand) over the top of the neck..you'll get the hang of it soon enough..

thats what i do, it just sorta becomes almost part of the fingering of the chord for example for a c chord i always stop it with my ring finger thats on the a string, for a d i always use my thumb. i dont even think about it anymore.

im a bassist too, so now ive gotten to the point that i can dampen out the other tree strings no matter what note i play so i can just strum all the strings all the time if its a harder song like that.

its just like anything, it takes time. i used to think i would never learn how to play a g chord, i could never get my pinky to hold that top string down, but now its not even something i have to think about.

I also use the thumb to mute out the low E, and actually I use it a lot. A, D, C chords all receive thumb mute attention. For others, I mute with the index (like on a B or Bm). Try all sorts of mutes and see which method works best for you. I think you should probably use all of them or at least be comfortable with all of them; that way you won't have to depend on one method all the time.
Just my 2c.
