Music is music. It is seeming to me that all of this "neon" and "scene" business is just the result of a superiority complex. I mean, if you enjoy the music, listen to it, right? It doesn't really matter what other people label it, if it's pleasing to your ears, ignore what other people have to say and just listen to it. No questions asked.

Here's another thing I don't really understand. What does one accomplish by putting down another's music? I read a post by a member of PlayRadioPlay! that was outwardly patronizing and labeling the music of Forever the Sickest Kids as "neon". Does it really matter what kind of audience they cater to? Music is a form of expression. As far as I'm concerned, relentless and non-constructive criticism of an artist's work is a direct insult to their artistic ability and individualism. I realize that one voice cannot avert a situation of this magnitude, but c'mon. Let's appreciate all music as art. Let's try to tolerate style's of music that we dislike, no matter how "gay", "neon", or "scene" they might be. Most importantly, let us not have to endure music reviews with the aforementioned biases.

You pretty much had me up until the bit about music reviews.

Your heart is in the right place and I largely agree with most of what you've said. However, I think that it's someone's full right to not like music and have beliefs about it. Where it counts is that someone else shouldn't have their feelings hurt for liking an artist that someone else doesn't. When people make art it is there to be critiqued/listened to/judged. There are going to be people that like it and people that don't, not all of them are going to have arguable, constructive reasons. Artists have to accept this. The problem is when it gets personal.
