No, it gives absolutely no rhythm to the music and makes it sound like one-note.

bass wasn't made to simply follow root notes. it's both a melodic and percussive instrument, and as such is supposed to be the link between the drums and the guitars. there's nothing worse than a boring, root note playing bassist. it's a bassist's job to help create and establish the rythm and groove of the song.

there's a saying among bassists, it's called "playing in the pocket." that's where you have a really tight groove with the drummer that adds to the song. it's the biggest mistake that bassists in hardcore bands make. you should be more focues on locking in with the drummer then the guitarists.
