It is EASILY the best game on 64. Dare away. Goldeneye was amazingly fun, but as far as being a GOOD game, Zelda isn't even touched by it. Everything that game does is impressive.

Amazing story, characters, fun factor, difficulty level. Everything is great. The Water Temple goes down as one of the hardest video game challenges EVER.
And amen to whoever said Mario 3 was better. That game is the tits, although World is my my favorite Mario game by far.

Zelda is sic, especially the old school ones on super nintendo. but the horse on ocarina of time was the best part of the game for sure, it could jump the biggest gaps and would go faster by eating carrots... what an efficient machine.

my personal favorite is world of warcraft.I was able to get through the water temple, but it took forever and was so huge. If you've never played it......play it. Buy a Gamecube and get the double disc version with Ocarina on it and the shitty new one. It'll be worth it. For you people who quit at temples....yeah, they're fucking hard sometimes, but you have to keep going. Use a walkthrough, that's what I did. It's still so much fun. Go back and beat it.

So who thought that the Iron Fist guy was harder to beat than Ganon when you're going up the tower to fight him? He's the guy who is short, stocky, and wearing an armor suit...you have to hit him and then he starts moving. I remember he had this huge hammer thing and like three hits with it and you were done.

09/10/06, 12:56 AM
I was probably one of the few actually a bit dissappointed with the game.
In my mind before it released was this huge, open world with tons of secrets to discover.
Then the reality was a huge open... field... with nothing to discover, that acted as a hub for the rest of the world which also had next to little to discover, and was approached in a very linear fashion which didn't allow for much exploration.
The dungeons and boss fights rocked hard though. Still a great game, but it wasn't quite what I expected.
I'm STILL waiting for a 3D Zelda game that I can put up there with Link to the Past.

They honestly weren't all that bad. The way they were interconnected was pretty damn cool.
OoT is my second favorite game of all time. My absolute favorite is Metroid Prime. I prefer the Zelda series overall though, each on (ignoring those damn CDi games), was brilliant (yes, even Zelda II). Metroid Prime and Super Metroid were great, but the original Metroid has really begun to show its age, while the original Zelda is still as enjoyable as any of the others in the franchise. And don't even get me started on the Prime sequels. The idea of adding loads and loads of characters to a Metroid game was the worst idea in Nintendo's history.

I don't know if any of you recall, but there was a tree in the middle of the island in the center of Lake Hylia. Now, on this tree were three slash marks for when you were older. My friend and I have never figured out what made those marks. No way it was Morpha, the Water temple boss. He's water!

Hahaha... reading into the slashes. Maybe it was the Skulltula on his way up to the top of the tree.

I found an old thread on some Zelda board about the slashes. They said it's possible you were supposed to fight something there for the Fire Arrows in the Beta version. Interesting, I wonder what else they left out.

Depends, if you've never played OoT, play the original one on N64 or the Wii VC. If you have played the original, you could give master quest a go, but in all honestly, the dungeon design was no nearly as good as the original version. I've heard Fable 2 was pretty good, but still a bit of a letdown.

Fable 2 looks awesome, but I doubt that it's even close to OoT. I had masterquest and was at the Shadow Temple, but my little brother erased my game one day when he was mad at me, and now the disc is too scratched to play. Bummer.

I'm playing Fable 2 right now, and it's a great game.
If you want to play a challenging nostalgic adventure game, go for Zelda
If you want something with a little more option adventure, go for Fable.

I think Majora is awesome for it's originality. I kinda disliked it when I first played it years ago, but I played it recently and I think the story and everything really falls well with the 72 hours you have.
I remember when someone told me the sequel to Ocarina was going to be you selling masks everywhere. I was fucking pissed.
i HATED this game the first time i played it when i was young. They need to put it on the VC so i can play it again. or i can shell out the 30 bucks for the GC disc.

Yup. Bongo Bongo was just plain boring, especially after working through such badass bosses as Volvagia, Morpha, and Twinrova. The Shadow Temple overall was just pretty weak in my opinion.
The Spirit Temple was kickass overall, I think... but nothing beats the cinematic majesty of the final fight sequence with Ganondorf and Ganon. Especially for the time, that shit was out of control.
I say this is both the best and most influential video game ever.

I want to say that Majora's Mask is probably one of the most underrated games ever. I know it followed OoT, which was a tour de force, and that the time system pissed off a lot of people, but it was a solid, excellent game. You should give it another go and try to work through it, it's worthwhile.

The only thing I can fault about MM was the time system. Innovative, yes, but it was boring as hell to wait until the end of the third day for an event to occur, fail, and have to wait all over again.

Wind Waker was great, I loved just sailing around and finding islands I didn't know existed and explore them. I remember I spent a good few days just sailing for islands and treasure spots. Again, another original game.
Twilight Princess was great too, I liked how they went back to good ol' Zelda, but I feel like it lacked something...originality maybe? I have no idea. But I did love the landscaping.

Exactly! Sailing around was one of my favorite parts!
For the next Zelda I would love to have a bigger environment where you aren't just limited to paths and open fields. I think it would be so much fun to get lost in the woods and stumble upon cabins and things like that. That would be the kind of Zelda game that I could immediately fall in love with.

Wikipedia:
In April 2008, Miyamoto stated that "the Zelda team is forming again to work on new games".[44] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_%28series%29#ci te_note-43) Miyamoto clarified in July that the Zelda team has been working on a new Zelda game for the Wii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii).[45] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_%28series%29#ci te_note-44)
The creators maintain that the series has a set timeline, however due to debates over the available information the timeline continues to be disputed. Miyamoto stated in a 2003 interview that there is a master document detailing the timeline.[46] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_%28series%29#ci te_note-45) Eiji Aonuma has also stated in a July 2007 video interview that there is such a document on his PC, and that this document is considered confidential.[47] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_%28series%29#ci te_note-46) According to this interview, development of a Zelda title can commence without the team knowing in advance where exactly the title will fit into the timeline; but by the time the title is finished, its placement in the timeline will be determined.
In Issue 37 of the British Official Nintendo Magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_Nintendo_Magazine), released 21 November 2008, it is stated that "the teams [are] still in the planning stages" and that "we wouldn't expect to see or hear anything more until the E3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Entertainment_Expo) event next summer at the earliest" and that "[e]ven that may be optimistic". However, the magazine says that "we WILL know something in 2009 [about the title]".

Scariest crap on earth.
Agreed.
I was actually having a conversation with someone a few weeks ago about the Iron Knuckles and how they scare me. Seriously.
In the side scrolling Zelda game I found them the scariest. There was something about how they charged out at me that got me all worked up.
Whoa at the Bump from the Grave.

Scariest things were definitely the redeads jumping on you, and seeing the Wallmaster's shadow grow beneath you.
I still have yet to play any zelda game, I believe I played the remake to a link to the past on the GBA, but that was about it. I need to play this.

I agree with you. I always tried to stay as far away from them as I could.

You need to play ALL of them, haha.

haha yeah the Redeads are terrifying. Especially when they'd freeze you and you'd hear that screaming noise.

Guilty. :-d

That was the worst part! Easily the scariest thing/sound of any Zelda game.

That sound haunted my dreams as a kid. I was so stoked when I found out the Sun's Song froze them in their tracks.

I've played Twilight Princess but it was severely underwhelming after a few hours into it.

Now, that game would be my least favorite. You should play Ocarina, and then Wind Waker. Those two are my favorites.

I've played a little of Wind Waker at my friend's house. I adore the fact that it's centered around oceans and wind, but seemed confusing at some parts since it's so open ended.
I've never ever played Ocarina though. :/ I need to get it on the VC for the Wii.

It was pretty awesome till' I had to become that damn wolf.

You won't regret it. Best $10 you'll ever spend.

It's a good game, it just didn't evoke any emotional response like the other Zelda games did, and that's why it sunk to the bottom for me.

I just bought Twilight Princess from Amazon. I hope it's not a letdown like some of you have been saying. :-(

I loved it. Come on, shooting arrows while on Epona? How sick is that?!

It's a good game, but it just didn't do it for me. It has some amazingly intense fights and cinematics.
Twilight Princess would've been a great game if they left out the wolf part. I know it was important to the story and added a different aspect to the gameplay, but that doesn't mean it was fun.
Oh yeah, A Link to the Past is definitely the greatest. I may have to find a SNES emulator tonight.

Agreed. If the game would've had more of these and less wolf, then I would still play the Wii, ha.

That's a good deal. Except maybe Madden and Wrestlemania. But I've never liked sports games much anyways.

The Wrestling games for the 64 were great because they were hilarious to play, but Zelda's just awesome.
I'd love it if Nintendo made a Zelda game where Link is a kid the whole way through, and it takes place in Hyrule, with a similar style to Ocarina, but cleaned up a little bit.
