I don't like the over in Pittsburgh...have you seen the weather? It may not be snowing at game time, but the expected high is about 17-18 degrees and the wind chill may or may not be double digits (expect about 11' at game time).
I wouldn't bank on two teams that haven't been that good on offense, in really cold weather, to each put up about 17.
I actually just did point margin bets for the Steelers, and I have myself covered from 4-10pts margin of victory

When the ball is in the air though...you can't jack a guy
And that ball was never out and it didn't look like it hit the Eagles player...but, the angle they have sucks, they need a down the sideline angle
edit: That 2nd angle is clearer, it really doesn't look like it hit him...but, they might be saying its not challengeable, because technically the ball would be declared dead when it "hit" the player

Doesnt the ball in the air matter? I honestly am not sure of the rule so who knows.
Scott Weber
01/18/09, 01:18 PM
you really can't say it hit the eagles player when he was touching OB. i think it might have, but you can't get that from the replay. i would absolutely call this cardinals ball.

How can you not review whether it went out of bounds? That should be one of the most fundamental aspects of the review system. :\

Fuck that, you need to be able to challenge that.

No doubt...it probably would have been 1 or 2 throws to Fitz and a TD at the pace he's going
And McNabb with the grounding penalty...no receiver within 20yds of that one
Scott Weber

already have 4 eagles fans on facebook blaming this on McNabb.
i hate the city of philadelphia.
preppyak
01/18/09, 01:22 PM
and Scott, you're dead on about McNabb being blamed...cause his passing numbers, being down by this much, are gonna go with over 40 attempts, and I doubt he does much better than 50% passing since the Cards D knows that...so his stats aren't going to look pretty (has an INT already as well), and it'll be an easier target that their 3rd ranked D

Yeah, but, in that case, it'd have had to make a 50yd throw go 15yds, because there was nobody on that side of the field in the frame...unless Andy Reid was an eligible WR

But they aren't blaming a QB who is probably the main reason you've been so consistently good...a QB whose taken you to 5 of these games in 8 years.
And its misplace, because Reid usually deserves the blame for the play-calling...and the D is 100% at fault today

Its not like McNabb has been playing good though, hes been almost as bad as the defense
preppyak
01/18/09, 01:33 PM
The thing is, I'd take McNabb as my QB over a lot of other QB's...but, not if he has to throw the ball 40 times a game (which is what Reid loves to do offensively), If he's throwing 25-30 times and Westbrook gets most of the touches in the run game, the Eagles can be a very, very scary team.
But, when you know McNabb has to throw the ball, you can sit on routes, and McNabb LOVES to try to stuff a ball into a spot he shouldn't...or if he gets antsy, the ball starts hitting recievers ankles
Its not like McNabb has been playing good though, hes been almost as bad as the defense
Agreed...but, its only gonna get worse because the defense has let the Cardinals get up big early, and now they basically have to throw on every 2nd and 3rd down...and like I said above, that's far from ideal for Philly...cause it limits some of their screen and short throw opportunities
The person to blame now is the coaching staff...for defensively failing so bad, and for the offense coming out so flat...the coaches didn;t really seem to have the team ready from the first snap

i just think the media has an easier time with a team like the Cowboys, who has been all over the news all year and has a huge fan base. maybe it won't have as much of an effect on ratings as it might in other sports (see last year's World Series); however, having a lesser-known team with fewer fans might have an effect in terms of merchandise, excitement, etc. i'll be rooting for the Cards, but the stories won't change the fact that this team doesn't have as much of a following. no matter how you slice it, a Cards-Ravens matchup might not attract the casual fan. that's all.

I don't really see how a casual fan wouldn't love to watch a Cards game. High flying offense and a hit or miss defense. makes for exciting games.
The Ravens, for whatever reason, seem to attract a lot of fans. This year they've been a little exciting because of Ed Reed making great plays and Cam calling up some really fun offensive plays.
to be honest, a Steelers-Philly Superbowl would've bored the shit out of me because it'd just be defense and maybe 2 or 3 big plays.
I could be a minority here but I really think more people would want to watch a game in the 20's or 30's over a game that'd end with a 20-10 final.

i don't care who plays it, nearly everyone in America will be watching the super bowl, like they always do. Even if it's not for the football.
Just because the cardinals aren't in a large market doesn't mean nobody cares. People love Larry Fitz and that offense. If the Ravens were to manage to upset the Steelers, that would be a pretty big deal considering their injury problems at the moment, and the psychical games they've gone through to get there. it's pretty ignorant to assume that nobody will be watching or care about a game with the Ravens and Cardinals.
And what does merchandise have to do with anything? people buy super bowl apperal no matter who's playing.

I could be a minority here but I really think more people would want to watch a game in the 20's or 30's over a game that'd end with a 20-10 final.
i know what you mean, but the kind of viewer who watches one game a year either doesn't know or doesn't care what kind of offense Arizona has; they care about if it's a team they've heard a lot about, or if it's historically a very good team.
and here comes Philly...

if you're talking about a person who's going to watch one game a year, then it makes 0 difference who plays because they're not going to care anyway. If it's a good game having tom brady or Joe Flacco in there doesn't make any difference.

I want the steelers and eagles in the super bowl. Then when the steelers win we can show philly who the best city in pa is. Lol. As long as the steelers beat the ravens I'll be happy.

An Eagles/Steelers SB would pull in huge ratings compared to a Eagles/Ravens, or Cards/Ravens, or Cards/Steelers one. Yeah the SB always brings in massive ratings but nothing would be bigger than an all Pennsylvania bowl considering the teams involved.

it would be great, Akers gets a sex change kidnaps McNabb. McNabb smiles the whole time while eating chunky soup. A washed up Jim Carrey comes and saves the day in a hawaiian shirt and wife beater combo.

i don't care who plays it, nearly everyone in America will be watching the super bowl, like they always do. Even if it's not for the football.
i know you guys don't care who's in it; i'll be watching no matter who's in it. but think about it; last year, we had the 17-0 Patriots (who had been hyped all year for their dominance and a QB who's dating a supermodel) against the Giants (who had been hyped all year just for being in New York). if the Cardinals pull this one out, they have the classic terrible-team-makes-good story, but nobody's paid attention to them until the last couple weeks.
Just because the cardinals aren't in a large market doesn't mean nobody cares. People love Larry Fitz and that offense. If the Ravens were to manage to upset the Steelers, that would be a pretty big deal considering their injury problems at the moment, and the psychical games they've gone through to get there. it's pretty ignorant to assume that nobody will be watching or care about a game with the Ravens and Cardinals.
maybe i should have made myself more clear; i never said NOBODY would care. this isn't about sports fans, this is about casual fans who don't watch ESPN and would watch the Super Bowl based on who they've heard of. i'm just interested in seeing what angle the NFL would use to advertise the game and the Cards.
you watch the NFL regularly, you know about the teams, you (probably) watch ESPN, so you would know all this about the Ravens' injury problems, their physical style of play, a rookie QB from Delaware, etc. many others wouldn't.
And what does merchandise have to do with anything? people buy super bowl apperal no matter who's playing.
mostly, i'm thinking of "__________ 2009 Super Bowl Champions" t-shirts.

In my opinion you couldn't be more wrong. You MIGHT be a little biased because you are IN PENNSYLVANIA.
An all Penn super bowl would blow for the rest of the country haha....especially for us West coast folks.
Personally I thought it would be cool to see Ravens/Eagles or Raven/Cardinals....but that is only because I loathe the Steerlers for obvious reasons;)
EDIT: I guess you have a point with the Steerlers tradition and McNabb's history and all of that, but I would rather see a different match up...but really I like football so it doesnt matter I will be watching the game either way .

Nah it's no bias at all. The Eagles and Steelers have a much bigger fanbase than the other two teams. They're also way more well known as well. Plus Philly's a big sports city, and the Steelers are historically one of the biggest franchises in all of sports. I don't see how a SB involving the Cards and Ravens would pull in bigger ratings.

One of the things you are forgetting is that casual west coast fans who have no rooting interest in any PA team probably won't tune it.
Granted, the Steelers will pull the biggest ratings of any of those 4 teams because their fans are everywhere...but, a Cards-Steelers game might draw better ratings than an Eagles-Steelers one, because people from Arizona and Souther Cali might tune in

man so many emotions going through me, i would have been happy for either team to win and would have felt for either team to lose. its the cardinals first superbowl appearance which is amazing but warner's been to two already and a lot of their main players are still young and have plenty of time, whereas mcnabb and dawkins are past the halfway point in their careers, have been to 5 NFC championship titles and lost 4 of them and never got their superbowl ring when they got there.
