Here's an account of Warped from one of our readers:

Despite the hour long wait in line to get into the venue, and the $3 water, it was the best Warped Tour I've been to.

The Starting Line played right at 11, and unfortunately I had to miss most of their set because it took too long to get into the venue, but the songs that I did hear sounded great but the crowd just didnt seem to be into it for whatever reason, there was pretty much no movement whatsoever.

Then came everyones favorite new band to hate, Fall Out Boy. Easily the biggest crowd of the day, at one point before the music had even started nearly the entire crowd collapsed like dominos somehow. Halfway through, Sugar We\'re Going Down, Dance Dance, and Our Lawyers Made Us Change The Name of This Song So We Wouldnt Get Sued they had to quit playing because people were getting hurt. They said that it was probably the biggest crowd they had ever played for, but they couldve just been blowing smoke up our asses. Great set either way

After grabbing as much swag as possible, I watched Senses Fail\'s set which was amazing. Senses Fail had sort of lost it\'s spot in my cd player, but after watching them live it completely got me back into them.

Motion City Soundtrack put on an amazing show, they sounded great. The crowd pretty much took over vocal duty during \"The Future Freaks Me Out\" MCS is such a great band and put on such a great live show, I hope they blow up and play with Puff Daddy.

Overall I was extremely happy with Warped Tour 2005, some other bands that had some big crowds and sounded great were Saosin, The Academy Is..., The Matches, and Cartel.

the majority of warped tours are selling out this year due to fall out boy. I guess the tour takes after the band.

haha yeah, i went to warped in san francisco, sacramento, and denver, and they said that at all three of them. actually, they said pretty much the exact same thing, word for word, at every show. kind of disappointing but not really surprising.

probably detroit

im pretty sure their biggest crowd was at chicago

i heard detroit had the highest warped attendence ever and last year FOB had to cut the set short bc there were too many kids watching and they almost knocked over the speakers and shit. FOB has a crazy draw in Detroit and its probably impossible to sell out that damn parking lot, its effing huge. which is why i went to canada instead of warped and gambled my money instead of buying merch. hha.

yah i was pretty impressed because falloutboy put on a really good show in fresno, which was somewhat difficult to get me out of the mindset of the last time i saw them where they blew. but every word pete said was rehearsed. It felt like i was watching such shit that seemed to have nothing behind it. No heart no integrity. Fall Out boy has an exciting live show but they need to learn how to personalize it somehow. Don't throw the same shit at the same crowd in a different city and expect them to eat it up.

i think this was detroit because they stopped playing during all those songs here because everybody was getting killed.cartel said it was the biggest warped crowd in the history of it(35000). motion city soundtrack and cartel were definitly the best sets of the day.

i went to warped '04 2 days in a row. and i saw letter kills both days (the second time was cause my friends i went with that day wanted to see them) but everything about their preformance was the same, the insults the singers motions the set list. perfectly insane. kinda dissapointing

You must have caught them on a (rare) good night, because Senses Fail sounded ridiculously bad at the Minneapolis Warped. Thrice's amazing set following them probably didn't help their showing either. Maybe it's just me, but it always seems like Buddy has to strain for the most minor of notes.

Here's a question... If Fall Out Boy always says it's the biggest crowd, do they also always say they're going to play I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy for the second time ever? Because if that was a lie, that would just suck.

At the Pittsburgh show FallOutBoy also said that it was the biggest crowd they played for. Which makes me slightly more jaded about bands saying "this is the best crowd ever" type shit.

On a semi-related note...Senses Fail couldn't grab my attention simply because Buddy came out and said "Mario Lemieux is a fucking pussy" which is like going in to Chicago and saying "Michael Jordan is a fucking pussy" or wherever Lance Armstrong is from and calling him a fucking pussy. Just pissed me off and made me not want to listen to them. Catty? Yes...very. Do I care that it's catty? Nope.

Other than that Thrice once again melted faces with rock. The Receiving End of Sirens put on a good show. I missed Reggie though because I thought the show started at 12 and they played at 11:30. Sonofabitch.

they played I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy at the Barrie Warped...they also said it was the biggest show they've ever played in Toronto/Canada...which I would believe based on the number of people there...and the fact that all their other shows in the Toronto area have been at smaller clubs. Whatever though, they were awesome...definately one of the best performances i saw that day

The set times for all main stage bands are apparently random. No idea what time you might want to get there to catch the first band, I arrvied 45 minutes early in Minnesota and was fine, but that was partly to catch up with friends that I knew.

I worked the date (Detroit) for Hopeless Records, and I'm pretty sure that Will (Cartel) wanted to punch me in the face for knowing some of the new songs.

Cartel and The Academy Is... played great sets. Cartel had a big crowd for playing early, and if anyone caught Reggie's set inside the MySpace tent (Fluxation), that was tons of fun too.

Official paid attendance was somewhere around 37,000, biggest date on the tour. The line getting off of the highway for the venue was insane...there was honestly some dude there with a "45 minute wait from this point" sign.

the fall out boy show in detroit was ridiculous. i couldnt even enjoy it, i got pinned down along with like thirty other people. after that i left and caught the second half of the cartel show which was my favorite show of the day. i couldnt find a cartel tent anywhere though it really bugged me. other highlights for me were the academy is, and mae(it was my first time seeing them live)

warped is getting rediculous in the respect of so many people going. it's good though, there is really no end in site..at least for the next few years. the only thing that sucks is the lack of water/high price. now i realize at any big event (sports, concerts, etc..) concessions are a giant rip off. however, when kids are dragging their asses about to have heat stroke, free water really wouldn't hurt. this raises another point, how would pete wentz pay for his leather toilet seat on the bus, where he sits all day, if water is being given away? just kiddddding. warped is still sweet, just don't take people that bum you out and are mean and selfish, it kind of ruins the day.

Senses Fail is awful live. Buddy had energy, but the guitarists stood there and did sweet fuck all. Horrible show.

Fall Out Boy, for me, was great ... they put on a good show with a crazy amount of energy. Too bad Cartel didn't come to Vancouver ... I wanted to see them desperately.

At the minneapolis warped Kenny from the starting line said that the indianapolis crowd sucked, does he say this to every crowd?
In Vancouver he commented on how good the marijuana was.

Typical.

Well, I know Ryan did.

As for this Warped date in the review... I'm almost positive that it was NOT the Detroit date because Fall Out Boy did not play for a good THREE hours after The Starting Line, and if he was around for either the beginning or the end of TSL's set, he would have heard Kenny shouting "DEEETROIT BAAASKETBALLLL" and would have probably noted that.

He also wouldn't have been able to see that much of Fall Out Boy if he saw much of Cartel, because their times overlapped (1:35 and 1:40 respectively. Cartel went on 10 mins early).

At the Fall Out Boy show in Chicago everyone was there because 1. they are from Chicago and 2. no other band was playing at the same time so I suppose that's why Pete said it was the biggest crowd ever. They signed autographs for the kids there but the line was super long. Tyson Ritter of the All American Rejects and Gerard Way kept telling the crowds that "Chicago is the best place to play" and "Chicago is out second home!"

This year's tour actually had the WEAKEST lineup of any Warped in recent memory. I mean, the only real "old school" (if you will) band was Offspring. C'mon, what happened to "PUNK ROCK" Summer Camp? I mean, you can like the Starting Line all you want, but they aren't punk.

The best band out there this year though, is hands down the Bedouin Soundclash. And I highly suggest to you, if you haven't been to warped yet, to go see them.

this was definitely detroit. after the third time FOB stopped playing, and more herds of 15 year olds holding hands kept pushing past to get closer anyhow, i left. their songs aren't very good when they have to stop in the middle of them for 5 minutes at a time to beg the crowd to step back so security will let them continue. not their fault, but it still sucked. motion city soundtrack and boys night out had the best sets of the day, hands down. dropkick murphys, suicide machines, and the offspring all get honorable mention. funeral for a friend, atreyu, and amber pacific were both pretty good too. i had to miss Thrice and Valient Thorr for the second time out of two tries for various reasons. pretty disappointing. at least i get to go see Gogol Bordello again this sunday at the Flogging Molly after-show party. columbus, ohio, represent!

Just curious, how many have you been to?

11 is fucking early for me. Yeah, I'm lazy. Anyways, I find that it takes a band or 2 before crowds really get into it.

[Fall Out Boy] said that it was probably the biggest crowd they had ever played for, but they couldve just been blowing smoke up our asses. Great set either way

Yeah they probably were "blowing smoke" as you put it. If not at your tour date, then at mine and the next guy's. As for their set/performance, I've thought about it... I really like the band, but if I couldn't sing along the lyrics or at least know a lot of them, I don't know how great of a band I'd think they were live. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on them or say they've sold out, I'm just saying that live they are just average (incredible on the album though).

After grabbing as much swag as possible, I watched Senses Fail\'s set which was amazing. Senses Fail had sort of lost it\'s spot in my cd player, but after watching them live it completely got me back into them.

Again, I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Another just-average live band.

Motion City Soundtrack put on an amazing show, they sounded great. The crowd pretty much took over vocal duty during "The Future Freaks Me Out" MCS is such a great band and put on such a great live show, I hope they blow up and play with Puff Daddy.

Why in God's name would you want MCS to play with Puff Daddy (Who's twice - thrice? - removed from that name anyway)??? That's probably the worst thing I've read today. Either way, MCS is awesome live... and is it just me or are the crowds near silent during the verses, but just about psychotic during the chorus of The Future Freaks Me Out?

some other bands that had some big crowds and sounded great were... and Cartel.

I wish Cartel would've been at the Minneapolis date. :(

Im not even from Indy but I got to there warped every other year or so..This year I went and I must say the crowd was very dead. But then again its was well over 100 degrees out and very humid..But compared to my home base stop St.Louis the crowd had hardly any energy for any of the bands I saw that day.Not to mention the venue completely sucks to have warped at...Then again he prob. just said that because everyone went to see Billy Idol instead of his band :-)

Man, is trying so hard to be offensive really that fun?

Suicide Machines didn't even play Warped in SF. Nor would I catagorize DKM, NUFAN, or any other of those bands as old school punk, not like Bad Religion, NoFx, et al. Nor did I ever imply that Bedouin Soundclash was old school punk. See how I wrote it in a new paragraph? Or do subtleties in grammar like those elude you? Notice how I said "the best band out there," not "the most punk band out there." Although, having major influence from Black Flag, Billy Brag, and the Clash is pretty damn punk rock if you ask me.

i love going to shows in texas because its all country music down here, so shows rarely sell out and bands play to more intimate crowds. not to call warped intimate by any means, but the 16,000 dallas crowd is way better than 37,000. as nice as it would be to get all the shows other people get, we get enough, and the ones we do get are easy to get tickets to. the shows arent empty by any means, its just that warped type music isnt as popular down here

warped is tomorrow for me (atlanta), and i'm looking foward to seeing emery (love the new cd), mae, thrice, mcs, and cartel mostly. when i saw fall out boy at the masquerade this year with silverstein and the academy is...they seemed very fake, like they coreographed every move they made. not to mention, pete and the other guitarist did the same things repeatedly. i love their music on cd, but they suck live. i saw thrice a few years ago at the civic tour, and they were amazing live, so i'm definitely looking forward to them.
