The Living Strategy – The Living Strategy EP
Record Label: None
Release Date: June 21, 2008
Who?
The Living Strategy hail from Austin, Texas, and they make a unique brand of indie punk rock that’s more influenced by the Fugazi, Les Savy Fav side of the equation than whatever indie-punk-rock has come to mean in the pages of Alternative Press. Oh snap! Like super nice guys, The Living Strategy even thank us for listening in their ‘About Us’ section. You ought to like them already.
How is it?
Lead by a fuzzed out bass and decorated with a bunch of high treble guitar lines, you could say that Living Strategy use their instruments for their specific purposes: the low end is low, and the high end is high. That’s a pretty stupid reason to be interested in a band, but I’m telling you from the second I heard opener “Gambling” I was hooked. They’ve got this 90’s pre-emo thing going on (reminiscent of bands like Braid) that’s working perfectly for them. “M80” is as catchy as the opener, “Go For It” is even better, and closer “I Miss Monday” is the best of all, with its pretty arpeggio and snare drum base. I literally can’t wait for the full length. I just hope they don’t gloss it up or, you know, sound like they actually came out of 2009.
Also of Note:
The whole EP is on their MySpace, free to listen to! Beat that!
