It appears Jesse from Brand New (http://www.fightoffyourdemons.com) decided to update us on the happenings with the band; there's a little more than just random capitalized letters:
"august 4, 2005
hello. have you given up? please do not joke. lets update the updates. first off, while brand new are currently studio bound and aren't touring, there ARE other bands in the world who ARE playing which is what is great about music. now je$se and BRian MAY OR MAY NOT be going to one or all of the MenWomenAndChildren/NightmareOfYou northeast tourrrrrrrrring dates. We are not trying to be secretive. We are just coy. and we've been thinking and realizing that we have about 2,342 songs demoed/tracked/arranged/workedout ect.ect.ect. so there is a good chance that we may let some of that out in a pre-chosen media form in the near future BEFORE our actual record which has ten working titles. this isn't a promise but we're getting tired of being the only people who actually listen to us lately. Besides BrandNew I've/we've been listening to (in no order): Big Star, Joanna Newsom, stealing guitar sounds and feedback from Darklands by Jesus and Mary Chain, and Sigur Ros' Takk which I have waited patiently for but which someone FORCED on me illegally and which I will buy three copies of to make up for when it releases. but boy oh boy, do those gentle boys make some noises!?! the other night we tracked or wrote a real good song. our friend margaretttt was there and she was playing all my guitar parts on her violin and it turned out great and it made me turn the guitar down and turn her up. She's ind of a one girl band, i'm gonna make you look stupid with how many instruments i play, kind of girl. Kevin and Eric were around that night as well so it was a stands out in your memory im thankful to God that we have friends type of night. We hope things are going well. Lately when mike's basemtn starts to close in on us we've been hanging around OFFbEat. Finch released awful demos, then a great CD 3 years after WIITB. It isn't the same as the first album, and as soon as you ignore that it becomes very good, but it seems like the "scene" singleminded opinion hates Finch now because they tried something different.
It's been 2 years since Deja Entendu was released. Before that, it was 2 years with nothing after Your Favourite Weapon. I love both CDs equally. I wouldn't expect another Deja Entendu, as no doubt you'll be very disappointed. There's no point a band making the same CD twice.

Here's the 3 most important points for me, jumbled in between Jesse's drunk typing:
1. They have a lot of demos.
2. They might release a few in "pre-chosen" media form (Purevolume? MySpace? Their website?).
3. The new album has 10 working titles. (I hope to God that this album ends up with more than 10 tracks considering all the hype)
They're so c-c-c-c-controversial.

I feel like without having heard ANYTHING yet, we really can't judge. Let's wait until they release at least something...
Also, I'm not expecting another Deja or even a Deja-caliber album. That could have been the best work they will ever make. It just sucks that they set this precedent and if they don't reach it a lot of people are going to turn their backs on them.
I'll be happy with anything even relatively close...

Yea I think its a little different since they are so big now it is expected they come out with a cd quicker than the time between YFW and Deja. I don't really like Finch's cd thats just my opinion, and I don't hate Finch because they tried something different, I just don't like the cd.
Finch's new cd is better than WIITB, it's alot more original

Man, I can't get enough of Mr. Lacey's drunk/high rambling. Even if they're not always very informative, they are consistently amusing. In other news, has anyone else been breaking out Deja Entendu more than they have been in recent months? I sure have and hot damn do I love that cd. I loved how all the song subjects were so different from one another. I don't think I've heard a song on the subject of Sic Transit Gloria; I love the irony in Maradona of a band with pop-punk leanings having a song about taking advantage of a girl rather than the typical vice-versa; The whole back and forth underdog/ego subject seen in Tommy Gun. Not to mention that the lyrics were extremely well-written imo and the tunes themselves were great. :wow: Mostly, I just hope that they can come up with subjects that are equally (or nearly) as interesting, but I can definitely hold out until they're satisfied with their work. They're the artists, after all.
PS: They're SO right about Joanna Newsom. What are you still doing not listening to her? Go!
PPS: What does "I Will Play the Game Beneath the Spin Light" mean? Not necessarily in reference to the song obviously. Thanks.

ever notice who always stirs up the most hype, gets the most replies, and causes the most controversy on this site and many others like it? not trying to be a smartass, i just think that their 'we're pretty damn popular' attitude is justified....and will be even more justified now that they're releasing an album on a major.

i definitely agree with you there. both albums are among my all time favorites for completely different reasons. your favorite weapon for the teen angst-iness and deja because the song writing, especially on songs like play crack the sky, was an absolute quantum leap for the band.

i think they should just release all 2342 songs that they are messing with....i would probably like 90 percent of them.

I really honestly am starting to think I'm not going to like this record... Which depresses me :(
not me, I am not a tremendous brand new fan.

Haha, that's hilarious... seriously. Scene points for you.

Hopefully he's taking vocal tips from Joanna Newsom. ;)
The fact that he's listening to her and Takk is wonderful. Takk is easily one of the best albums of the year (no surprise) and everyone should know that Joanna fucking rules.

ever notice who always stirs up the most hype, gets the most replies, and causes the most controversy on this site and many others like it? not trying to be a smartass, i just think that their 'we're pretty damn popular' attitude is justified....and will be even more justified now that they're releasing an album on a major.
back on topic, this is actually the most informative news update they've had in awhile. can't wait to hear a demo, but i won't have any expectations.
Instead of ripping on you, I'll just suggest that you might wanna revisit this last post of yours....it lacks in the sense and point departments.

Suggestion noted. I don't see how it lacks in sense and point departments...I simply said that Brand New is one of the most hyped bands around, and everyone knows who they are, and most everyone is really looking forward to listening to the new album, either to rip on it or fall in love with it. This causes me to believe that their attitude towards their popularity is justified, judging by fact. And the fact that they're releasing an album on a major soon means they'll be even more popular.

I'd never argue their popularity...I just don't think that they're as popular as they think. Attention on AP.net isn't the most difficult thing to achieve, especially in the summer when the boredom leads people to respond to, well, most anything. Also, even if you are popular, is it ever really OK to be arrogant about it?
I'm excited for their new record though I don't think releasing it on a major really means they'll become more popular. It depends on whether the person/people at your label in charge of your marketing backs the record and sees it as viable and pushes it. There are plenty of bands that released albums on majors that actually lose popularity.

I actually should have mentioned the two Alternative Press covers within one year of each other, and the noteriety in major magazines as well. I guess it's all in how you perceive it. Oh well, let's just both agree on how we are eager to hear the new stuff. :afro:

Eh, the mention of a couple Alternative Press covers wouldn't have made a difference...
Asking a general music fan if they know who Brand New is usually gets me a couple blinks, a head tilt, then a "No.." Asking them if they know Dashboard, AFI or MCR gets me a "Yes", as well as Saves the Day and Thrice. But Brand New often is followed by "Brand New What?"
And yes, very eager for the new stuff.
