I just saw a commercial for yet another Tyler Perry film.. 'Madea Goes to Jail'

Is it just me or does he release a new film like every two months?

Why do people continue to see his movies? Stop. Please.

I work at the movie theater in my hometown, which is predominantly white. We get his movies and they still do really well. Having watched bits and pieces of most of them, they aren't good. I guess you're right.. I just don't see the draw

I work at a used cd/dvd/video game store. His movies sell fast! I don't know his box office numbers or if he has success there. But there is definitely a lot of people who love his movies. I watched one, I don't see the appeal. But to each their own.

His movies are also dirt cheap to make, so pretty much all of them have recouped their budget back on the first weekend alone. (Even if it comes in second or third). Dude is officially a mogul.

That said, haven't seen a single one of his movies.

he targets the religious african american audience, which is extremely fucking huge. but he also does enough to appeal to some demographics outside of that. the dude definitely has it figured out.

i just don't understand the hate towards him. i've never seen any of his movies. i've never watched his tv shows. i think they look awful. but, i watch a lot of shit that tyler perry fans probably think looks awful. i'm ok with that.

i think it's hard not to respect the guy for finding what works and maximizing it to it's fullest potential. he's a money machine and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.

I know it's easy to hate on him. I don't particularly care for what I've seen of his movies either. They play to the lowest common demoninator and they're relatively predictable. But I do have some respect for him in that he began in the theater and worked his way up to film through geniune audience appreciateion. He also writes and directs all his material, which garners additional respect in my book. If the people want these movies, then Tyler Perry should be there to make them.

He and Oprah put up money to get it distributed and got producer credits. I don't think they had anything to do with the actual making of the film though.
