i'm just curious, what makes the bands you listen to any better than the ones someone else listens to that you don't necessarily like.
this isn't supposed to be pretentious in any way, i'm really just curious.
in fact, i'll start.
i feel that bands like senses fail and all of those 'screamo' bands are lacking any sort of inspiration or style. all they are doing is writing the same song with the same structure. verse chorus verse chorus breakdown chorus. that wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't 80000000 bands writing the exact same song, with terrible lyrics, and no real vocal talent. i give bands like falloutboy credit, based only on the fact that their singer has a fucking insanely strong voice. i feel like bands like gatsbys american dream, refused, days away, copeland, mae, and a lot of others are all doing things that are unique, bending the rules of the broad genre of punk rock. they are making intelligent music, and still (minus refused) making better choruses than these bands like senses fail that are looking to sell themselves out for a quick buck.

I don't really care what someone listens to, as long as you have respect. For example, I hate Fall Out Boy, and I don't care if someone listens to them really, maybe I throw a little joke at someone about it, but thats all. Now, if you call Fall Out Boy better than The Beatles or something, all rules go out the window. You have to have some respect for bands like that, even if you hate them.

I'll debate musical taste sometimes, but I generally don't care what other people listen to. Taste is completely subjective. I like what I like and what other people like doesn't bother me.

Are you kidding me? He's terrible.

His voice does have strength to it, but he really isn't a good vocalist at all.

i didn't say i liked his voice, and i've only ever heard it live once, but it was strong, and he hit every note, as easy as his voice is to listen to or not. the same can not be said for senses fail.

He embodies everything that the bad contestants on American Idol have. They attempt to slur everything to make them appear more talented. He strains sometimes when singing. He's just plain bad. Anyone see them on Late Night with Conan O'Brien? Yeah. Ouch.
I wish my sister were home to completely destroy all the singing "abilities" he has. You want a real vocalist? Ted Leo.

i didn't say he was some god. i'm just saying, of those radio 'punk/screamo/emo' bands getting mtv play, hes at the top. i'm not saying thats some amazing feat.

All those "creative" bands you listed that are doing something different is good of course. However it wouldn't be different if every other band was doing it. I mean bands like Senses Fail and and the like who do the whole verse/chorus structure do it because it always works. Sometimes you just get enjoyment out of simple structured songs. No matter how much you strive to like only the artistic and the unique, I still get pleasure listening to fun simple bands. What is dissapointing is that they scream just to scream. Which is turning out to be cliche nowadays. Not every band has to be a genius. If it wasn't for the bands that play the reliable song structures, I don't think I'd feel refreshed when I hear something new and creative. They both need to exist.

he would have a good voice...if he didn't try to hard to fit it into the style they have...and i think the reason i like certain music, is that most of the stuff i have...i can feel attached to in one way or another...where as bands like fallout boy, or others...that i feel slap together cd's for money, i can't feel like they put any emotion in it, and i don't give any back.

i completely agree with this. except the fact that the structured song thing doesn't even WORK for those bands. i like a lot of pop music, a LOT of it. i think the producers who work with the pop princess' are all fucking genious. i think blink 182 is genious based only on the fact that they write the same damn song every time, and they still make millions. pop music is where i come from, my grandpa is a writer, has been since he was rocking major labels in the 70's, my uncle is a producer who is just looking for songs. i had no intentions on sounding like i only listen to art, because i don't. i saw ashlee simpson live. yeah, i'm admitting it. i fucking loved it.

i hate bands with cheesy lyrics and massive amounts of 11 year old fans that scream out "you're hawt!!" and other ridiculous shit like that.
Ex. Cheesy lyric "Girls don't like boys, girls like cars & money"
need I say more?! no. gay.

What's that phylosophy, that basically says the same thing. In order to fully apreciate the good, you have to have the bad. I don't agree with it in most instances, but with music it apply's.
