No one ever talks about 'em here, which is a shame. They been churning out relevant, progressive material for 20-plus years and organically merging styles like psychedelic, noise, krautrock, and tribal. I'd recommend their '99 release Vision Creation Newsun for tyros, but the infallible P4k--ha!--gave a 9.5 to '98's Super Ae, naming it the 44th best album of the '90s. If you wanna jettison AC for a while and get with these real contemporaries of Sonic Youth, see me if you need help "obtaining" these albums cuz the stuff on their Myspace doesn't give a great impression of their aesthetic. Bottom line: get into these Japanese noisemongers and get your head blown in.

Edit: I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up with an official FtSK thread with several pages. :hitself:

I do, too, although I tend to prize the instrumental kind most--but I prefer sans-vocal music in general. Are you a Boredoms fan?

Definitely, definitely! For some reason the Japanese are terribly good at the noise fixtures! (Boredoms, Merzbow, Melt Banana, etc.)

Very true. I'm especially fond of Boredoms because I love the minimalist/krautrock influences. What could be better than motorik gone tribal!

You should also check out the Japanese all-girl trio Nisennenmondai if you haven't. Smalltown Supersound recently released a combo of their two EPs.
