I am starting to become jaded with all of the bullshit coming out lately.
I was wondering if you all could point me in the direction of some good music that is new.
Thanks People

Not really sure what music you like but uhh...

Off With Their Heads - Hospitals (punk.. that's their best, but they released From the Bottom in 2008 which was pretty good)
Dillinger Four - C I V I L W A R (punk)
Swamp Thing - The Youth is Sick (hardcore)
Hour of the Wolf/Lewd Acts Split (hardcore)
Tallest Man on Earth - Shallow Grave (folk)
Brainworms - Which is Worse? (hardcore)
Moving Mountains - Pneuma (indie postrock type music)
Thou - Peasant (sludge metal)
Fall of Efrafa - Elil (kind of post metal.)
Son Lux - At War with Walls and Mazes (weird electric music)
Mason Proper - Olly Oxen Free ("noise pop" is what they call it. but its just good pop music in my opinion.)
Capsule - Blue (Hardcore)
Andrew Jackson Jihad - People That Can Eat People are the Luckiest People in the World (folk punk)
Slackers - Self Medication (ska)
Seun Kuti - Many Things (afrobeat)
Propagandhi - Today's Empire Tomorrow's Ashes / Less Talk More Rock (neither very recent but they're my favorite band and their releasing their new one in march so get on that sir.)

Could name more if you like any of these.Yeah. A bit of a range of genres in there. All of them are fairly recent (earliest being 06 i think but lamost all 08).

And I personally thought 2008 was a great year.

I have listened to almost all of those, and besides bon iver( who is amazing) I really wasn't impressed.
I guess I could add on I would love music that is complex not only in lyricism but in musicality, I am a fan of everything, but I guess I am looking for a new "rock" act. Though that term is dead you might know what I mean.

Thanks a lot

Wow, that list spanned quite a few genres and you found nothing aside from Bon Iver? That's baffling. Do you not like instrumental music? Anyway, they were all 08 releases so perhaps some of the obvious 07 albums will strike your fancy. The National, Menomena, Iron & Wine, The Cinematic Orchestra, Yeasayer, etc. released really good work that year.

08 was awesome. 09 is boring me save for the new Antony and I guess new Franz Ferdinand and Das Pop albums (although those two just kind of make me want to listen to Phoenix for whatever reason). Try:

Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
The Black Ghosts - The Black Ghosts
Lykke Li - Youth Novels

Although if you're just looking for a "rock" act those might not really float your boat as much.

Also These New Puritans and the Virgins had good albums, although they're not really all that original or really interesting. Just fun. Same with the Teenagers.

Though I loved 08, this year has already started out extremely strong to me.. Swamp Thing, Harm's Way, a new AJJ ep, and coming soon new NoFX, Propagandhi, Dead to Me, and Brainworms.. shaping up to be a great year..

And I personally thought 2008 was a great year. Hey, I was randomly looking at that, and I just checked out Mason Proper, and I literally just bought they're album on iTunes because of the song Lock & Key. Do you know any other bands that are like this that fall into the "noise pop" category?

I honestly never understood why they were classed as Noise pop. Their music really doesn't remind me of people generally associated with the genre, but other Noise pop bands would be people like Sonic Youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, and Dinosaur Jr... though are the only ones I've listened to, at least.

Pretty similar I'd say. Brought Kuti up a bunch earlier in the year.

Still, of the artists we agreed on besides Bon Iver, those two were my favorites, ha.

2008 was awesome, & two mentions of kuti in this thread before i even get here... i love this place sometimes. few albums that haven't been mentioned yet

xavier rudd - dark shades of blue
folk based singer/songwriter, who fuses many world sounds into his own usually folk/acoustic sound. however, this time he takes on a more electric sound than his previous efforts, but it really really works. there's still those gorgeous soft numbers, like "shiver", that anyone could get into. doesn't matter what your musical background is, a lot of people here would really enjoy this if given a chance. a strong hendrix vibe on this one, just an awesome listen

smv - thunder
victor wooten's latest project. a collaborative group made up of three magnificent bass players, stanley clarke, marcus miller, & victor wooten, as well as a few guest musicians. their debut album thunder is something any roots or world music fans should be checking out. anyone with an interest in jazz, fusion, funk, reggae, etc, etc will become hooked. thunder is one hell of an album, all those furiously fast finger-picked melodies, patterned with sensational slapping harmonies. such a fusion of textures, tenor & style. check it

al green - lay it down
lay it down pays great homage to his defining work of the 70's, but without being a mere revision. it's fresh, pure, brilliant. the vocals smooth, the percussion solid & deep. it's simply genuine & gorgeous soul music. ?uestlove from the roots is on the production team on this one too, & probably why the percussion sounds soo damn good, nice & thick

tim finn - the conversation
great concept, feel & flow. playing with each other, responding to each other, playing live, no programming, no sampling, no high-tech stuff, very organic. the conversation is like rolling down a gentle river of deep & personal self reflection. it's a relaxed & sparse sound, but with such an intense deeper meaning. it takes some time to really allow the album to open up, but like all tim's work, once it does, he pulls you through a kaleidoscope of his own emotions, that somehow still manage to echo many of your own projections & thoughts. but as any previous fan knows, this being a tim finn record, emotions do no always neatly conform, but the end result is a record to treasure

oh & the two i assume most people have already heard, but worth mentioning in case:
erykah badu - new amerykah part one (4th world war)
jamie lidell - jim
