I've been discovering a lot of really cool Philadelphia-area bands lately. But in general, I would say Northeastern bands do it better (lately). Then again, I should rep the Eric Coast. :-)

depends on the time period, i will say that often times it seems like stuff starts in the east(both north and south) and goes straight to the west coast who takes it in a diffrent direction and then that bounces right back east again, while they're ping-ponging, the midwest it feeding off the best of both worlds and makes somthing unique out of it.
All and all, there is good music everywhere, and I feel very fortunate to have grown up in the Atlanta suburbs, and in the early 2000's I went to lots of shows of lots of good bands, and made quite a few friends with bands, some who went nowhere, some that have met modest/cult success in bands Treephort(also an ex-member/friend that played for the Phenomenauts for awhile) and Jet By Day, and I went to High School with Will and Kevin from Cartel who of course have done very well, I didnt always follow their music as much as my little brother did, but I've always been fond of them and am definatly proud of them for stickin to what they love. And of course theres other notable locals Manchester Orchestra, The Chariot, Norma Jean, Showbread(well then again they're from Savannah) It seems like alot of metalcore outfits come out of Atlanta lol. Also not to mention I don't live terribly far from Athens, GA which of course was the first big college rock/alt-rock capitol through the 80's and still has a huge music scene.

Oh yeah haha. Well not in Georgia, that's for sure. We've got Cartel and REM but really that's it. Maybe there are lots that I just don't know about but those are the only big names I can think of. We've got loads and loads of rappers and country singers - no good music.
But if anyone does know any good bands from Georgia then I'd love to hear about them, cause I don't know of any.
