They annoy me. I mean I should expect it because most people I know are my age and know nothing about politics but their complaining about Obama being president makes no sense. They don't even know why they are attacking him. It is like they think they are fucking awesome for saying a few stupid assasination jokes(I kid you not) and black jokes about him. I ask them why they think he will be a bad president and I get responses like,"He isn't Christian," and "He is a Socialist."
Has anybody else encountered idiots like this?

To be fair, for as many people who bash Obama in all their uneducated glory, there are just as many people who hail him as the next coming of Christ without knowing the first thing about his policies.
There are idiots on both sides of the spectrum, just have to ignore it as best you can.

I know but I feel like the spirit of those who love him but know nothing about him is much better because at least they see hope in his background and knowledge instead of hating him for it.

All of my mother's Republican friends from the Midwest keep sending her chain-emails claiming that Obama is some huge terrorist who plans to kill the entire country. And the fact that his middle name is Hussein is their prime indication of this.

Fair argument, but ignorance is the same whatever way you spin it. People should just keep their mouth shuts when they don't know what they're talking about, but then again, that will never happen.
I can dream I suppose.

How is bashing Obama any different then bashing Bush? They don't like the fact that he's in office as much as democrats hated the fact that Bush was in office. Now I know that Bush did some shitty things and was an overall terrible president, but in the eyes of people who are way off to the right, and they're kids, Obama is like that.

There is ignorance from everyone around Obama. I mean the people who have actually listened to him and know what they are talking about are obviously excluded from it. But people saying he is going to get shot in a few months. You are lame. They have upped the security alot. And he is not Christ, thats just plain stupid. People need to stop bashing and praising Obama without knowing the facts.

if you truly believe he is the anti-christ, it is your christian duty to vote for him. at least, that's what this guy (http://outtheotherear.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/in-one-earout-the-other-makes-its-one-and-only-appeal-to-the-evangelicals/?referer=sphere_related_content/) told me.

Bush got elected to office in ways that seemed very illegitimate so in my opinion some of the bashing was deserved but of course some of the bashing was ridiculous. By the time it was 2003 or 2003 the bashing was well deserved if you had people who knew what they are talking about bashing him. Bush did more than some shitty things anyways, he fucking disobeyed the Geneva Convention, went into a war that is very imperialistic in nature etc.
Besides Obama hasn't even done anything in office yet.

I dont think we will be able to say wether or not Bush was a bad president or not for a few years. I mean, alot of people hated Teddy Roosevelt for building the Panama Canal, and after he left the presidencey or died or whatever we ended up needing it and he is now looked at as a good president. Same with Reagan.

I'm not defending George W. Bush here, because he did do some terrible things for our country, but he also was unfairly bashed by people who had no idea what they were talking about just because it was cool or because their parents were doing it or whatever. Stuff like this goes on with every president, they'll never be a unanimous (sp?) decision and there will always be idiots. It's America after all.

But it's completely different because Obama has done little, if anything, as President. Bashing him as a President is just dumb at this point. Four or eight years from, if he does a shabby job, then he will deserve the hate just as Bush does.

Yes, everything he did is hated and terrible right now. But once he is out of office and Obama has time to make his changes and everyone sees things play out, I think then everyone might be able to think clearer. Im not saying Bush is an amazing president. Im not saying that he will be thought in that way after a few years either. Im just saying I dont think we can be so quick to say that.

I completely understand that and at the same time I can understand why people are finding the need to bash him, as stupid as it may seem.

The things that he did won't just dissapear or heal in a few years? Serial killers stay in jail for a long time, but when they're dead we don't look back and think to ourselves 'Hey, he wasn't that bad of a guy'

Thats not what Im saying. I think our vision is clouded right now as a country. I think after we have a new president, and see what he is like and what he has to offer, and everything that we may think differently about Bush. Not saying it will happen, but it has happened with previous presidents.
I know people at school who are convinced that he is the anti-christ.
Have you pointed out that the Anti-Christ is supposed to come from the Middle East?

I agree with this completely.
And as for the Bush bashing, a lot of people were(and still are) just repeating what they've heard from other people. Bush had good intentions like every President, he was just massively unprepared for the job. The people elected him not for just 4 years, but 8, so I would put as much blame in those who voted for him as Bush himself.

No amount of time will 'clear up' or 'excuse' what you did, he fucked up and that will stay with him as his legacy. Today, next year and in a hundred years. Time doesn't change what you have done.

I was so sick of dealing with people like this...my best friend,I love her to death, but she is a complete idiot when it comes to politics but she thinks all her opinions are absolutely perfect, not saying mine are haha but yea she was talking about how much she hates Obama and since he's the anti-christ the rapture's gonna happen soon, she thinks Bush was the best president to ever happen to our country as well haha these are direct quotes from her...I don't know, it just gets so frustrating when people are so stubborn but only listen to one source rather than doing their own research, I also have no idea where people get these insane ideas drilled into their heads either haha

History will judge Bush yeah, no doubt. However, his mistakes are obvious. Many on the right say that perhaps decades down the line he will be perhaps viewed as Harry Truman. A president who left with an abysmal approval rating but was later regarded as a great president. Truman did many good things:
- Executive orders to desegregate armed forces.
- Calling for universal health care.
- The Marshall Plan
- The creation of the CIA and the US Air Force.
- The Berlin Air Lift.
-Opposition to the Taft-Hartley, despite using harsh measures against strikes.
-Creating a vast UN coalition to fight in the Korean War.
-The containment policy.
- Creation of the UN.
Truman would face down a congress that was at times rabidly against him, unlike Bush who only really faced a congress that was somewhat against him late in his term. Truman was able to dismiss the red scare of the time as a mere "red herring" which in retrospect was true.
Truman's political fate was sealed when he rightfully dismissed Douglas MacArthur from his command; MacArthur wanted to expand attack China directly perhaps drawing even the Soviet Union into the conflict. An unpopular decision which was no doubt the right one.
Bush managed to lose unwavering public support after 9/11, ruin the United States image abroad and presided over the worst economic crisis in seventy years; which in large part was helped by his actions.

It will be interesting, that's for sure.
I've come across more people who think he is the second coming of Jesus.
I think people have a right to be questionable of him. There is so much hype behind him, they just want to bring the tone back down to earth. There is nothing wrong with that.
Obviously, there are idiots that make claims like "there is the end of religious freedom", which is just ridiculous, but I'm not hearing much of that in my circle.
