If you had to put together a tentative top 10 list for this year (albums you've heard so far), what would it be? Create a journal (http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=startjournal), post your tentative top 10, and then post in the replies a link to your journal. I'll pick a few at random (the catch is that you must have a journal) to send out all kinds of swag.

It's only August, but with all the album releases this year, I think it's very easy to pick at least 10 that are stand out albums for the year. This is merely my opinion, and here is my top 10 list for the year so far (they are in NO particular order):

2. Houston Calls - A Collection of Short Stories

3. Emery - The Question

4. Monty - The Red Shift

5. Mae - The Everglow

6. As I Lay Dying - Shadows Are Security

7. Funeral For A Friend - Hours

8. Gatsbys American Dream - Volcano

9. Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This To Memory

10. The Spill Canvas - One Fell Swoop

There are of course going to be some awesome releases that come out after I make this list. The ones that I can think of that have the potential to make this list are:

1. Thrice

2. Coheed and Cambria

3. Socratic - Lunch For the Sky (please check out the e-card if you haven't, it's such a superb album)

4. Panic! At the Disco

5. Jack's Mannequin

Well, there you have it ... these are the albums that I think are standout, absolutely brilliant, and deserve to be purchased by everyone who enjoys these certain genres of music! Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think!

Alright, thus far I have found that this has been a pretty solid year in music with its prospects only looking better as we near the end of 2005. When the Brandtson, Coheed, Limbeck, Jack's Mannequin, Socratic, Death Cab and Cartel albums come out, they're likely to push out most of the current top 10.

With that said, these are my tentative top 10 albums.

1) The Hush Sound- So Sudden (buy this right now)
2) Brendan Benson- Alternative to Love
3) Gatsby's American Dream- Volcano
4) Umbrellas- S/T
5) Emery- The Question
6) Oasis- Don't Believe The Truth
7) Stars- Set Yourself on Fire

1. Emery-The Question
Never before have I heard an album that makes me move with such emotional sway.

2. Norma Jean-O God, The Aftermath
This is loud music done right.

3. With Passion-In the Midst of Bloodied Soil
This is purely a metalgasm.

4. M83-Before the Dawn Heals Us
Sure its not as good as the last album, but its still better than just about every album ever released.

5. The Decemberists-Picaresque
Its like sweet indie rock crack.

6. Bloc Party-Silent Alarm
Still better than what is in most peoples cd players right now.

7. Armor for Sleep-What To Do When You Are Dead
Bliss bliss, concept concept lol.

8. Dane Cook-Retaliation
Lets face it, this is a funny man.

9. The Forecast-Late Night Conversations
Its kinda like Briad, just, not really.

10. Just Surrender-If These Streets Could Talk
Its catchy, its poppy, it makes the deaded word...emo...enjoyable to say again.

Also. When the new Thursday and Thrice cds come out this year, people have to live with heads exploding cause of how good those two albums will be. Seriously, watch out for people with iPods walking down the street. You dont know what song shuffle will play next, and I dont think you want to be near that person when they hear the new Thursday or Thrice. Cause kids, exploding head matter and tight shirts do not get along.

I've bought so many cds this year, many of which I dont really like even though everyone loves them, like Finch and Armor For Sleep. I just cant get in to either of them. Same with JamisonParker, there's no excitement in that one at all.

The only ones that stand out to me are
1) All American Rejects - Move Along
2) Eisley -Room Noises
3) Acceptance - Phantoms
4) Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
5) MxPx - Panic

I dont know, I'm just sick of hard music/hardcore, of screaming, of everyone trying to by like Gatsby's, of most emo, of concept albums... I just cant take it anymore. I did just get into Phantom Planet though, and I still love Limbeck and cant wait for that album. Allister too, I could use some more FUN pop-punk stuff. Not to mention that I dont get sick of listening to Butch Walker over and over too.

I am in a totally different world than you people, apparently.

1. Circa Survive - Juturna
2. Gym Class Heroes - The Papercut Chronicles
3. Armor For Sleep - What To Do When You Are Dead
4. The Receiving End of Sirens - Between The Heart and the Synapse
5. The Letters Organize - Dead Rhythm Machine
6. Alkaline Trio - Crimson
7. Millencolin - Kingwood
8. The Unseen - State of Discontent
9. No Use For A Name - Keep Them Confused
10. Spitalfield - Stop Doing Bad Things

My 2004 list was much more impressive.

I'm pretty sure A Wilhelm Scream's Ruiner and The Fall of Troy's Doppelganger will take two spots on the list soon. I'm actually extremely skeptical about Coheed next one. I guess that's a surprise to you all.

Come on, wheres some love for Bleed The Dream- Built By Blood!!

Deffently one of the most solid albums this year

http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=284

01. Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This To Memory
02. Days Away - Mapping An Invisible World
03. Devin Davis - Lonely People of the World, Unite!
04. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
05. Gatsby's American Dream - Volcano
06. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
07. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Worlds Apart
08. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
09. Limbeck - Let Me Come Home
10. Alkaline Trio - Crimson

Like every year, there were tons of albums to chose from this list, and it's hard for your list to be accurate... or at least for me it is. There are so many other CDs I fell in love with over the course of the last 8 months, but I couldn't put all of them on... this will be even harder at the end of the year, when there are even more albums to chose from. (Death Cab and Coheed being the 2 most anticipated, although I do have Death Cab already, and I will be buying it, but I havent heard it enough times to know where it belongs on my list). I'm sure I'll smack myself for not putting a different album on this list sooner or later, but as of now, this is my list.

If you had to put together a tentative top 10 list for this year (albums you've heard so far), what would it be? Create a journal (http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=startjournal), post your tentative top 10, and then post in the replies a link to your journal. I'll pick a few at random (the catch is that you must have a journal) to send out all kinds of swag.

hmmmm here you go...and yes the get up kids are in this list...

TylerDurden911

http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=showentry&e=617

Ok, so here's my top ten albums of the year so far, which I put in no particular order because, well, it's still too early for that...
-Armor For Sleep - "WTDWYAD"
-Gatsby's American Dream - "Volcano"
-Jack Johnson - "In Between Dreams"
-Choke - "Slow Fade or; How I Learned To Question Infinity"
-Circa Survive - "Juturna"
-Buck 65 - "Secret House Against The World"
-Bear VS Shark - "Terrorhawk"
-The Academy Is... - "Almost Here"
-The Receiving End Of Sirens - "Between The Heart And The Synapse"
-At The Drive-In - "This Station Is Non Operational" (I know, I know... But still...)

That's it for now, but there are a BUNCH of albums coming out between now and the end of the year which I'm really looking forward to, so this list is definitely gonna change. I'm pretty sure new albums from the likes of Thrice, Coheed And Cambria, Brand New and others are bound to shake things up... Plus, I've still got my fingers crossed for a new Weakerthans CD...
