View Full Version : Calling all with gauged ears

Hyp
01/21/09, 02:06 AM
This is kinda pissing me off. Today is the second dawn in a row that I've woken up to the flared end of my tunnel pushed halfway into my ear. My only guess is that I'm sleeping on it...They're still healing and I'm pretty sure having a metal ring dig into the flesh can't be good for the healing process...

My question is, for all people with pierced or gauged ears...how did you avoid sleeping on your ears, or better yet, did this ever happen to you?

Also, maybe this can be like the official gauged ears thread or something? Lol, I didn't see one in the search...So what does everyone think about gauges?

But don't forget about the original question =P

try maybe different guages for awhile.. mine fall out of my ears when i sleep all the time.. maybe too try not to move around as much when you sleep and there is a less chance it will happen

I've had gauged ears(0's) for about 8 years now so I can't really remember what I did.....BUT i do have a few questions that might help me think of an answer for you.

When did you get these done? How big? Did you do them yourself? Did your ears rip at all when they were done? Are they single or double flared?

I'm DC
01/21/09, 09:56 AM
I'm not a puss about it and I just sleep.

I've never really found sleeping difficult, but I also don't move to flares until I'm fully healed. Get plugs with Orings. They stay on much better.

I got them done about 4 weeks ago. They were pierced at 10g and the guy started the stretching with 8g single flared tunnels.

For all saying it's not a big deal, the only reason I'm asking is because they're still in the process of healing. They still look like a "wound" and they're still kinda sore when I wash them. I just want to to heal them up with no hassle and I don't think having a steel flare digging in is the way to do it...:/

And I do have o-rings. It's single flared so the o-ring is behind my ear. The tunnels aren't "falling out", they're being forced through the wrong way when i sleep on them...

Gotcha. Well they definitely need to heal or else they will scar up(and that is never good). It sounds like you might be out of luck sadly. The ONLY recommendation I have is maybe getting some basic acrylic ones with o-rings on both sides for the healing process. I know it's probably not what you want right now, but it will be better in the long run. I've seen people take them out and close up great if there is no scarring while others I've seen never go back to a normal piercing size(18's/20's). The other option is to change the sleeping habits and methods(which have been mentioned earlier).

Good luck though.

Hmmm, okay, thanks for your help. :) My friend told me to try sleeping with my hands behind my head while on my back...if that doesn't work, then I'll have to try the no-flares, I guess. Thanks againnnn :)

You have to make sure you wear good gauges to bed. Find some that are extra long in your ears so they have room to move in your sleep or I always had luck with o-rings keeping them from slipping around.

o-rings get annoying after you get past the smaller sizes. They don't look good on earrings at all.

Im a 6 or an 8 (idk I forgot) and I wear spiral gauges because they're waaay more comfortable..especially for sleeping. I never have to worry about them digging in or falling out, or poking me in the back of the neck.
I was in and out of wearing gauges for a few yrs, and when I re-gauged them I just put my spiral ones in (idk how but my ears were closed to like 14s and they just slid right in)
but yeah, sprial all da way.

Hyp
01/22/09, 05:56 PM

Hyp

As you can see, it really isn't all that much hassle. With a little advice, I'm in the clear, so I'm going to go with yes since I only wash my ears 1-2 times everyday while I was my hands about 4-6 times everyday.

Hyp
01/23/09, 04:16 PM
Eh. I've heard that organic plugs and tunnels actually absorb the stuff that makes ears smell stank, sebum, and you can just wash them out every so often. But of course theyre going to stink if you leave a metal rod in there all the time for stuff to accumulate, lol...

You are all stupid. They are called plugs not gauges. The gauge is the size of the plug so therefore if you are calling them gauges you should not be streching your ears to begin with. Second ever think of taking your plugs out when you sleep? if you are anywhere above 00 take them out at night while you sleep they wont fucking close in a few hours. are you serious? clearly you know nothing about streching your ears. silicon plugs are the worst thing you can put in your ears while they are healing. if youre ears look like shit without your plugs well that most likely why. you have no idea what you are doing. try using wood plugs during the healing process. or anything made from organics really is what you should be using. i am at 2 inchs right now and my ears look amazing. learn to do things right kids.

People suggesting silicone and acrylic for a fresh stretch? Do not listen. Stick to organics, titanium, or stainless steel, solid plugs. If the tunnel is coming back through, it sounds like to me that you need to up your size. But if it isn't healed that will just cause more damage so switch the type of plug.

If you want more info online check out www.tribalectic.com or better yet, go to a shop. Also, at these sizes you don't need help stretching from a piercer. Just wait enough, get proper jewelry, and keep it clean.

I agree with you 100%, it is just you came across hostile. I started researching about stretching and how to do it when I was about 14 and started when I was about 15. I do hate when kids who have no clue what they're doing go and get a piercing or start stretching and then something happens and they're the poster child for the piercing community. Of course not everyone is going to do it correctly and you were trying to give them information, but when you attack someone, they aren't going to listen. I'm sure you have some great info and tips that would actually help this kid.

Okay, for the record, the problem has already been solved.

Second of all, I'm sorry for not looking at EVERY SINGLE THING that could POSSIBLY HAPPEN if I stretch my ears. With your logic, I should have researched "what will happen if a dog licks my earlobe?" or "what if I pass out and someone decides to stick chopsticks through my ears?" Sound stupid? That's because it is. That's not research, that's just being a straight up dumbass. Research is looking up what size I should start at and where I should go to get them done...which is exactly what I did.

Maybe you were brought up as the all-risk-avoidant Sam Dullard. If that's the case, I hope you live a long and healthy life "researching" what you should do tomorrow if your boss asks you how your weekend went.

but really, i dont know why they do that and ur the first person besides myself that has had this problem so i had to comment. ;]

Yea, but with something as common as stretching your ears a lot of people don't really take the time to do the research. I know that I, for one, didn't do any research and went straight from a normal sized piercing to a 10g. Was that a stupid move? Yes, but I was a poor college student and my friend had some free plugs and tapers. But, I've learned since then especially with the help of people like roxy how to do things right. All I'm saying is that you seem to know what you're talking about when it comes to stretching and thus could be more of a help then a hindrance to people when they ask questions like this. There's really no point in you being such an asshole to someone who just has simple questions. Maybe they were misinformed, but they don't need to come on here, ask questions and then have to deal with people like you.

1. my gauge is just 2. but still when i sleep the outside of the tunnel always ends up in my skin aswell. and now they randomly just fall out of my ear. to me i just figure its time to go up a size. haha.
but really, i dont know why they do that and ur the first person besides myself that has had this problem so i had to comment. ;]

2. gauges are addicting.

gauging is very addicting..i promised myself i would stop at a 2, and now i am at a 1/2 and considering going bigger. i just cant stop >.<
