ya uh pretty much from what I can tell...the black figure represented a tool for evolution (you'll remember that the neanderthals saw it and then humans arose) so pretty much...man found the figure again (or the figure found man?) and man evolved again. What you see at the end is the next stage in human evolution.

The music is beautiful. I only like the first ten minutes of the movie though.

Read the book. It has long been agreed upon that the movie makes almost no sense unless someone has read, and understood, the book. But seriously, the book by Arthur C. Clarke not only answers your questions, but it's a marevelous read, as well.

Kubrick is one of my favorite directors of all time. Definitely a genius and a god of film.

anyone else think it reminded them of Vonnegut's The Children's Crusade.

Weird freaking movie man, but I liked it too.

I never read the book, and the movie, though beautiful, was quite boring. Great music and cinemetography do not always hold my interest, it seems.

isn't it just a short story and not actually like a full-length novel?

Just saw this for the first time. Easily one of the biggest mindfuck films I've ever seen in my life. That was fucking crazy, especially the last half hour.

I found it to be nothing more than average, however. It's a shame it didn't have more dialogue, because I really liked the few ones, which were also short lasting.

I think this will be what I watch for my annual Kubrick film on March 7th.

Fantastic film, recently watched it with a friend who was seeing it for the first time. Always fun to see first timers reactions

A close friend of mine at school recently (a month or so ago) got netflix, so he is working through a long list of great movies he hasn't seen. It is odd to watch certain movies, like this one, with other people.

it'd have to be. Maybe I'll force my gf to watch it or something. I'd love to witness someone's reaction.

The guy that is joining me for Full Metal on Sunday is doing essentially the same thing. Got Netflix about three weeks ago and I gave him a list of films and he is going through them. It's great getting late night texts from him with reactions.

Yeah, my friend watched Mulholland Dr. last night and I had work to do so I couldn't watch it, got a call at 1am asking what had just happened.

That movie definitely improves with repeated viewings. I think that Memento is what we are watching tomorrow night, so that should be pretty good

Great film, watched this a week or so ago and one of my younger brothers came in. He was surprised by the visuals.
