does it seem that most people who are die hard music fans are also usually really good at writing about music?
And why has this seemed to have missed me?
I couldn't write about music if my life depended on it.

Maybe your mom drank too much during her pregnancy with you. I kid, but seriously....I don't think most people who like music are good at writing about it. I do, however, think that many of them think they are by writing cliche turdlings about music and in turn fool people like you that they are good at writing about it. I get sick reading the descriptions of most bands on their purevolume pages and stuff like that.
"Guitarist Joe Cool paints the most breathtaking scenes; the guitar his brush and the airwaves his canvas." - Some fat ass emo girl who give the band handy action on the weekends

Haha, that's not good writing.

Haha, that's not good writing.Exactly....seriously, too many bands get descriptions that are stupid like that. If I ever take my music to a higher level, my part of the bio will read, "Brian plays guitar and he's okay but anyone can sound good if they get to play it as many times as they want. He's better at Scattergories and baseball than he is at guitar, but those never made him any money."

I really want to do something with my time, I want to partake in something that has to do with music. But the only thing I am good at is listening to it.
Some people can play music- I CANT.
Some people can work with music:
by writing- I CANT
by signing bands- I CANT
by doing anything else you do with bands- I CANT
The only thing I can do is help promote music, but when people ask for descriptions I'm just like AHh, Uh, it's good? Er. I suck at it. :( I need to find a hobby, like maybe croche. Or hopscotch.

That sounds similar to some pretentious bullshit Dredg and their fans have been cooking up ever since El Boro came out.

you could probably sell merch for bands. and then you'd get to sell shirts, cds, hang out with bands, and talk about music all day

I'd advise you to never ever ever dig up my early articles on the internet. They sucked (well, a lot worse than my current ones, at least :)). If you want to get into writing, I'll pass along some words of wisdom that people have told me. First of all--read. That's the most important thing. Read music magazines and go through their articles and interviews and reviews. Find what you think makes them good and what you think makes them bad. Don't just read them once...keep reading them. You'll begin to get a feel for how the "professionals" write. Then start to write about how a band's music influences you. Talk about what it sounds like, what it feels like, and what it means to you. You'll have to probably freelance for free for a long time (I still am) , but eventually you may get good enough to get paid.

I can write about music fairly well I think, but I think it's mainly because I'm a reasonably good writer. I can write about sports better than I can music.

No, I haven't written the song yet. After I do, however, I'm going to take my guitar and break it over your head because you're the reason I lost.

Lish, do not fret, you aren't alone.
I love music, but I can't write lyrics nor play an instrument worth crap. I feel like God completely skipped over me when he was handing out those traits. He was like "here, you'll love music, but you won't be able to be involved in it ever."

hahaha....I've never heard Dredg but I think I read some article about them over at ultimate-guitar.com and there was some absurd description of their new album. Had I remembered, I would have used that as my example.
