School Boy Humor - Camera Shy But Still A Star EP
Record Label: Vagrant Records
Release Date: November 4, 2008

Who?

Recent Vagrant Records signees with their digital only debut EP, Camera Shy But Still A Star. The band hails from Little Rock, Arkansas where they've built up a strong following.

How is it?

Two words: very good. The band gives their listeners a nice mix of songs on the EP. Additionally, the band is able to get you instantly hooked in just a short time. The opener to the EP, "Camera Shy," just screams 'hit.' It's an incredibly catchy track with a chorus that's almost impossible to ignore. Hopefully School Boy Humor has big plans for this track because alone, it's enough to make this band huge. The remaining songs, "Cheating Myself" and "Everyone Who Breathes," do an excellent job maintaining the momentum set forth by the opener. After a few listens, the vocals from Phil Evans begin to standout as one of the more impressive features of this release. If you enjoy cover songs, "Realize" (originally by Colbie Caillat) is just as great and equally as catchy as the other songs on Camera Shy But Still A Star. If you're desperately seeking that band to get into before everyone else does, consider this your notice

Best Interest had an album of the exact same title. Not sure if it was released, though.

good review, but these guys sound just like every other band trying to make it big right now. i'm kind of disappointed that Vagrant would sign these guys. they're a much better label than that, but i guess you have to pay the bills somehow.

There is a band called Best Interest that put out a cd called "Camera Shy But Still A Star" on 2005, so please change the name of your EP

You know I'm interpreting that as "Brokencyde, Metro Station, etc. is better than this band". Just saying

To be fair, Vagrant has also signed A Cursive Memory who are equally as "poppy". As far as this band is concerned, they are far above many of the other pop-rock bands.

They are the clone of Forever The Sickest Kids. Which is a terrible comparison. Your electro pop is a fad and wont last. Lets guess you're 13 or 14 years old and you have long swooping bangs and...you are wearing green nikes? Bright orange? And you are wearing a headband? A brightly colored one? Am i getting warmer? Bad band is bad. Bad bands fan base is even worse

How did you exactly guess that's what I look like. I'm also curious as to how you guessed I'm 13?
Sacrcasm aside, I atually have none of those features and I am the age my account lists.

Firstly, they're far from FTSK. Sure there are similarities but if you bothered to listen to them, you would notice that the differences outweigh any similarities. Secondly, I doubt you know anything about their fan base because I like them yet you know nothing about me.

Best Interest was amazing. I do not know if these guys knew about them before picking the cd title, but it was coined by BI way before these guys.

Just checked. No age listed on your account. They are not far at all from FTSK. Just listened to their myspace songs again. Immature lyrics and bad hooks. Sounds like FTSK to me

Yes they sound similar to FTSK, but what is really wrong with FTSK other than JCook?

Honestly I've never listened to those bands so I would probably check them out before listening to any more SBH...

FTSK has some catchy songs but it's WAY too uninspired and truly has no purpose than for girls to attach their names to the band's ridiculous name.

Every other member of the band. The music they make. Dance pop is a fad and has no lasting value. They write immature lyrics and poorly structured songs and are on a major label. Something is wrong with that

i mean they're good, just not great. i just generally tend to expect much better from Vagrant, because they have always had a great roster.

What is wrong with the members of the band?

Besides, if you bothered to listen to this band you would have realized nothing about this band is "dance-pop", they're a pop-rock band. Lyrically speaking, what is so immature about SBH lyrics? I haven't studied them in depth but were not talking about FTSK's lyrics. Lastly, Vagrant is not a major label, it is an indie label.

FTSK are on a major label. SBH lyrics would fit on a Jonas Brothers record. I dont recommend verifying that.

What difference does it make that FTSK is on a major, it's not like I'm building them up as something great.

As some of the other members have pointed out there is a band called Best Interest who already released an album called "Camera Shy But Still A Star". School Boy Humor sucks in comparison but the comparison wouldn't be made if they didn't rip off the album name. If you'd like to find out for yourself, hear a sample and download Best Interest's 9-song album HERE (http://sinbandit.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/you-need-to-hear-this/).
