My ipod keeps showing the "folder with an exclamation point symbol" and i tried to do everything apple says from restoring factory settings to plugging it in.

Any other options?

Find the nearest Apple store. Go there. Ask them to take a look at it. They'll tell you what's wrong of they're fix the pod.

oh, theres a command you type in, and it does checkdisk on that drive and fixes it. its prolly from disconnecting it from the computer when you werent supposed to.

the same exact thing happened to mine, but i was out of my warrenty when it happened. i went to the Apple store near me, they said for me to order a do-it-yourself replacement battery pack offline, since trying to restart it wasn't working. i paid the $40 for the replacement battery, struggled with getting the iPod open, replaced the battery and it still didn't fucking work. i just ended up buying a new one because i am a tool.

Either mail it to the Apple inc. or format the iPod.
