Tim Roth in a show created by the creators of 24? Thats a formula for badassness.

Plot?
One similar to House. I am guessing a different case every week with the main character's story in the backworks.

It seems like its more along the lines of a CSI type thing though.

A new TV show I'm actually excited for, about time.

Fox doesn't exactly have a good track record for television anymore, but this show does look good. Roth doesn't seem like the type of actor to attach himself to something that lacked quality just to earn a pay check (knocking on your door there Slater).

I have my dvr set to record the premiere tonight, I doubt i'll catch it when it first airs.

Don't see a thread for this. I enjoyed the pilot. Which actually broke viewing records.
The program's premiere delivered a 4.9/12 rating and share in the ad-centric 18-to-49 demographic, just behind a 5.0/12 for the two-hour season premiere of "Lost."

I enjoyed the pilot a lot. I'm a big fan of Tim Roth.

I really liked the premier, but I do wonder how long they can keep it fresh and original. I guess I'm just not sure how long "He touched his eyebrow, he's lying" will be fun. I trust them though.

Absolutely loved the premiere and how they executed certain elements of his being able to read people.
Hopefully they can keep it up and maintain the freshness and originality.
Not that it needs to be said, but Tim Roth is great.

I really enjoyed the linking of Pop-culture and plot. Intriguing indeed.

So this was actually good? I got told the premise of the show and lol'd because it sounds terrible. Like a lamer CSI.

I really love this show, I hope its getting high ratings, but I have a feeling it isn't. I haven't heard anyone say anything about it. The Pilot and tonight's episode was extremely solid, i'm really excited for next week's episode.

I really enjoyed the show. After just having taken a psychology class and having two psychologists for parents it just seemed really cool. I actually want to get Paul Ekman's (the real psychologist who pioneered this stuff and is a consultant on the show to ensure authenticity) books on the subject. The whole thing is just fascinating to me. The show is just awesome. Anyone know if it's slated to come back in the fall?

Bumping this thread. Season two premiered on Monday, and I thought the episode was great. It doesn't seem like there's been too much discussion here, but I'm hoping that at least a few people will chime in.
Here's the episode for anyone who missed it: <object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/8Ov0h0uwYaCiqTyU0d1Ewg"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/8Ov0h0uwYaCiqTyU0d1Ewg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>

finally getting in this thread!
I think my least favorite episode so far was the season opener with Erika Christensen as the girl with multiple personalities. I don't know why but I thought it was one of my more disappointing premieres this season. I remember thinking the next episode was a return back to form and then I've loved every episode since then.

This show is actually amazing. And it isn't always like "he touched this, or that, he must be lying." It's basted off of Micro Expressions. They are real. While yes, this is a drama television, observe some of the accusations he makes. Microexpressions are entirely real. Just takes time to be able to notice, and piece together what it means. I experienced a hint of this a few days ago.

Agreed. If anyone is interested in how "realistic" this show is, check out Paul Ekman's (the real psychologist who's work this show is based off of and for which he is a primary scientific consultant) blog for every episode (http://fox.com/blogs/lietome/). He discusses the accuracy of the micro expressions and the science behind Lightman's readings. I think it's really cool to see what he has to say, and he definitely adds some credibility to the show. I'm actually very tempted to pay for the program that helps you learn to spot specific micro expressions more quickly. It's all available on his website (http://www.paulekman.com/), I also subscribed to his newsletter, which is a little less scientific, but still pretty interesting.

Same on both accounts. I'm considering getting one or two over either Thanksgiving or Winter break when I have a good chunk of time to go through them. I also want to buy that training program he has haha. Maybe I could get it as a Hannukah present this year.
Both of my parents are psychologists and at one conference my dad, a neuropsychologist, was at, he attended one of Ekman's programs and said it was really interesting. I was pretty jealous haha, although I think the program he went to was before the TV show aired.

haha we're pretty much on the same page. I'm planning on asking for one for Christmas and reading it during the lovely month long break from school.
that's so cool. I'm jealous of your dad too. I would actually love to be able to study this stuff in school.

I scored somewhere in the 80s, but I don't remember exactly what it was. If you're interested in improving your skills, these (http://face.paulekman.com/products.aspx) are the different training programs that Ekman offers. I think I might give it a shot at some point just to see.
I know that there is no lie detection or microexpressions class that you can take, but there are definitely some psychology courses that would relate to this kind of study. There's also no set career path as "lie detector" or whatever you want to call what Lightman does, but the skills that you learn through this kind of training transfer to lots of different professions, even if it's not explicitly. I've done my reading on Ekman's site haha.

I'll have to check that out.
I definitely don't think that my school's psychology program has anything that really relates to it. but I'm thinking of taking a psych class next semester just for fun to take a break from all the business classes I'm doing. it could definitely help in lots of other careers. I'd love to be able to use it in business when making deals and things. or even just with men haha. I always wanted to be able to use it on my ex and be like YOU'RE LYING, I KNOW DECEPTION DETECTION. I also loved on the one episode last season where Cal was watching the news and he sees the guy talking about his company, can tell he's lying, and decides to sell his stock. that'd be amazing.

Some of the storylines in Season 2 get pretty ridiculous. Cal Lightman in Afghanistan? Getting over his head in a crime ring? Going undercover for the FBI?
I suppose it's not much worse than CSI characters doing police raids, diving into rivers, climbing skyscrapers and chasing down suspects...

Didn't catch tonight's episode, but just watched the season three premier. Pretty intense. I agree that season two got kind of ridiculous at some points, but I still think it was well done for the most part. I think this show and the science behind it, which I've been educating myself about as a hobby, is really fascinating. Anybody else catch the new episodes? Glad to see some more people posting in this thread, nobody I know watches Lie To Me so it's nice to have somewhere to talk about it.
