I've been gone to long. Whats the story?
uh oh smmoreo
08/10/05, 10:42 PM
Well that doesn't really matter much, as long as we still get our gossip. Good move on your part Jason, though.
All that I really got out of that post was that Madison Bleek is in fact a girl. Hooray. I feel smart.

Put simply I dont like this. I know why its being done and understand your reasons but youre censoring on a website that should be on the front line of all the news and "gossip" associated with punk bands, labels and perosnalities. I think this was a area where ap.net could stand out but now it will be a little more bland than it was last week with folks like these two stirring the pot.

I was reading over that site, and its very simliar to Buddyhead's type of gossip talk. Except w/o some of the extravagant lies

who cares what anyone thinks.... i mean fuck this site is called absolute PUNK. good lord. And even "punk" labels have lawyers. The odds of us getting in trouble for it aren't high - but even the threats, the hassle, the time it takes to deal with pissed off owners, and the ruined relationships make it not worth it. It's not my fault people can't take themselves less serious. Whatever, it's the best of both worlds. Same shit's gonna get posted regardless of where it's hosted.

I think it's a pretty smart move.
Tate's liable for all of this, I'd be trying to save my own skin too.
It'll still be somewhere, thankfully.

Well no one can touch you for anything said on this site for the most part, unless its violating copyright somehow, but I can definitely see wanting to keep positive relationships with labels and other industry people. Live and learn I guess.

There isnt anything wrong with protecting your career within the industy Tate
I can fully understand this move. The reason why this site is so great is because of the fact that a lot of labels and industry people want to be involved with this site and to have their bands posted about on this site. There is no sense in destroying your relationship with these people just for the sake of gossip.
Just as long these dudes keep on delivering the dirt, i'll be a happy man.

actually they can, it's called libel. and if they have an attorney that can prove any kind of punitive damage they can get a financial settlement out of it. this is the smartest move in a situation like this.
but it is true that most of the time, there won't be too much noise about a thread specified as gossip...
but then again, jerry fallwell has been sewing people for making innocent jokes for a very long time, so you never know what might happen...
and, don't worry, i'll refrain from comparing fallwell to anybody...unless i really dislike them...
and, if you like fallwell, sorry...

I heard that Tate made this move after he was caught in a vicious love triangle with josh and madison. THAT'S how he found out that madison was a girl. But this is all strictly gossip and is to be taken as such.

If a writer for the New York Times makes liabel statements you can damn well be shure that The Times is responsable. Often times the New York Times has 3 seprate fact cheekers cheek every single line in a story to make sure it is 100% acurate or can be shown why it was beleived to be true.

the difference being that the NY Times writer WORKS FOR the NY Times. whereas, before this post, MB's status wasn't exactly known; knowledgeable user, or works for AP? now you know.

It isnt libel unless its held out to be truth, which it absolutely was not. It was held out to be rumors. Plus it is the internet, and internet libel cases are tough to win for the affected parties.
Not only that, but everyone that is discussed on this website is a public figure, and they have it really hard in libel cases.
And finally, you can add to that the fact that this site is more or less considered part of the media, and their right to publish is going to be held pretty high as well.
Bottom line: Jason cant be touched for anything that has been posted thus far.

The NY Times doesn't have a fact checker, I'm almost positive for that. Find me the fact checker please?
In other thoughts of mine, this whole fiasco of labels being mad at this stuff reminds me of when Lester Bangs was no longer allowed to write for Rolling Stone, the first time, for being to mean to bands. The music industry has been in a decline for so long, it's just more obvious now.

can you give some examples of Falwell sueing people for making innocent jokes?
Try the movie the People vs. Larry Flint. The case between Falwell and Flint is a prominent focus in that movie. The ad that ran in Hustler said the Falwell had sex with his mother. It may not have been innocent, but it's clearly absurd. And Falwell sued.

You are correct. Heres a Link to the NYT code of ethics http://www.nytco.com/company-properties-times-integrity.html
Fact Checking: Writers at The Times are their own principal fact checkers and often their only ones.
