I think the styles of music aren't as similar as some believe. Radiohead has a lot more rock'n'roll type songs as well as a good variance of song structure. Sigur Ros succeeds in making ethereal sounds although the structure of a song is usually based around one melodic idea and a build up of instruments (at least, from what I've heard).
