i got a question for the computer experts here. I pay for a 3 meg Cable Broadband service. My current dl rate is usually 40KB/S with only my computer connected to the router. Why is it that slow when i subscribe to a 3 meg service, and does anyone know a way to fix this before my other 2 roommates get here and hook up their computers

nah, just a regular 4 port router, i had it connected in my last apartment and it worked fine and i had pretty decent dl rates, but i moved into the new apt and its pretty slow, i guess it could be a location problem but it still shouldnt' be that slow should it?

It shouldn't be that low at all especially with you being the only one hooked up to it, I dunno man, peak hours?

try unplugging the router and modem, turning off the computer, and letting them sit for a bit. then plug them back in starting with the modem; see if it gets better. if that doesn't work, check for firewalls/anti-virus programs, and if that doesn't work, call tech support, and see if they can up your signal.

Yep, some servers will have a maximum download speed per user. Say Apple.com might limit people downloading iTunes to 100k each you know.

Try a new ethernet cable. Should be fine.
