Hey guys. Did everybody have a good week? I sure did, so i'm hoping the rest of you managed to work up a good time as well. Anyways, this week I had my friend Adam Samiljan of Fueled By Ramen (http://www.fueledbyramen.com) join me. Below are our sets of recommendations for the week, so feel free to check out what we've been spinning, and don't hesitate to inform of us something we should be listening to:
Long Shot Hero (http://www.longshothero.com) - Forget anything bad you might of heard about these guys. They are geuininely nice people who play super fun, catchy, upbeat ska-punk. If you haven't listened before, I suggest taking a minute or two to do so.
The Suicide Machines (http://www.suicide-machines.com) - War Profiteering Is Killing Us All, the new album from these guys, just hit stores recently on SideOneDummy records. If you haven't had a chance to pick it up, I recommend doing so. It's an intense, politically charged collection of Battle Hymns, with a little bit of something for everyone.
The Forces of Evil (http://www.theforcesofevil-ska.com) - My love for this band just won't seem to subside. I know I recommended them last week, but I just couldn't help myself from doing it again. Go pick up Friend or FOE? if you're up for one of the best ska listening experiences of the last decade.
Bedouin Soundclash (http://www.bedouinsoundclash.com) - These guys have got soul. That should be enough, shouldn't it? Well, go take a listen for yourself, and i'm sure you'll find something you like.
General Rudie (http://www.skapages.com/generalrudie) - Although these guys are generally unheard of across the border, they're one of the best ska bands Canada has to offer. Give them a listen.
------------------------Adam Samiljan's (Fueled By Ramen) Recommendations------------------------
Hey everybody. My name's Adam and I handle all the online promotions stuff for Fueled By Ramen. Since I'm on my computer pretty much all day, I've got a pretty extensive iTunes library. Lately, these are the jams I've been playing:
1) Bayside (http://www.purevolume.com/bayside) - self-titled: This album is going to surprise a lot of people. It's awesome to finally see this band reach the potential they've had for so long. Like Through Being Cool or Take This To Your Grave, there's not one weak track on this album. The lyrics, musicianship and artwork are all top-notch. Go see them on tour now.
2) The Dead 60's (http://www.dead60s.com) - self-titled: My boss Vinnie recommended these guys to me a while ago. The CD covers a lot of different styles, so don't judge it based on one track. The single, "Riot Radio," sounds like Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand while other tracks sound more like The Clash or The Specials. Definitely give it a listen.
3) Captured! By Robots (http://www.capturedbyrobots.com) - their/his/its live show: I was down in Los Angeles last weekend and somehow ended up at this show. It's really hard to explain so make sure you check out their website and try to make sense of it: JBOT (a human) is captured
by several robots and forced to join their band. JBOT plays guitar and keyboard and his captors play guitar, bass, drums and horns. They were tighter than most bands I've seen live and far more interesting.
4) Let Go (http://www.purevolume.com/letgo) - self-titled: Jamie Woolford was one of the main reasons I wanted to work at Fueled By Ramen. Animal Chin and The Stereo are still some of my favorite bands (go listen to The Stereo's album Three Hundred). Even though he's now on
The Militia Group with his new band, he's still writing some of the best songs on earth.
5) Damone (http://www.damone.net) - new album: This thing needs to come out already. The demos for it ruled and I can't wait to hear the final thing. Kyle from FBR recommended them to me a while back and I was very skeptical at first, but they've become one of my favorite bands. For now, go listen to anything on their last CD, From The Attic.
Other shoutouts go to: Against Me!, The Cardinal Sin, Panic! At the Disco, M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Ley Royal Scam and Chris Glover.
Thanks a lot to Brandon for letting me do this with him. If there's anything you'd think i'd be into, post here or IM me at fueledbyadam.
Thanks to Adam Samiljan for taking the time to do recommendations with me this week.
