Not a sport.

If you want to tell me why its not a sport I would be glad to listen.

I played soccer from age 5 to 18
I wrestled from age 7 to age 19
I played baseball from 5 to 15
Kicked for football in HS
Played Lacrosse from 15-18 (after I got bored with baseball and wanted to try something else for a few years).

You want to know what the hardest, most physically demanding sport was? Wrestling, by far, no questions asked. We had a good football team (almost always in the state finals), and as soon as their season finished the ones that wrestled would come to wrestling practice and be way behind on getting in shape for wrestling - ie puking in wrestling conditioning even after an entire season of intense football conditioning. But if you want to let me know how wrestling isnt a sport I'd be glad to hear it!

just because something is physically demanding doesnt mean its a sport

It's dumb and boring. Thus not a sport.

^ha, good comeback. By that logic any sport that anyone doesnt like is apparently not a sport...I mean water polo iis boring to me, but some could argue its a sport, baseball is extremely boring to me (fun to play, boring to watch *to me*) but I certainly think it is a sport.

^^I agree with that, but what else makes it not a sport?

Physically demanding aerobically and anaerobically/conditioning and strength? Check.
Matches decided on points scored within a certain amount of time? Check.
Not having to rely on 3rd party equipment (ie engines as in NASCAR or a horse as in equestrian or something)? Check.
Matches relying on a high amount of skill? Check.

I agree that all of those things individually don't constitute a sport, but when combined I would like to see what reasons people have to not consider it a sport personally.

wrestlers get so mad when you make fun of them. i had two friends in high school that wrestled and i always ripped on them for it. like when they would be sitting at lunch with a cup of water because they couldnt eat because they had to make weight. so funny.

if they were drinking water and not eating to make weight all they time, they werent doing it right. I never starved myself to make weight. Most the kids that do that are just doing it for show or wrestling at a weight class lower than is optimal for performance anyways.

they always wrestled way lower than they probably should have. like significantly less than their normal weight

yea, and a lot of people do that, but it gets to a point where you're not gaining anything from it. Problem is that most High Schools don't have coaches who give good advice on weight loss/maintenance and dietary information so you have kids cutting way more weight than is even useful for them

yeah and they werent the smartest kids in the world so they probably lost weight in the worst way possible. they were also twins which made it even funnier

Wresting is absolutely and unquestionably a sport, and one of the most pure sports there is. Are you fucking kidding Nick?

I wish I still wrestled. I'm actually training to try and get into some of the men's open division tournaments. Been back in the gym pretty hard for a good 8 mos, but I really need to find a HS or something that I can get some people at to practice with me otherwise I'll never get back into 'wrestling shape' no matter how much I go to the gym or run or ride bikes.

I wrestled my sophomore year in high school. I'm not the sports type, i was (still am) pretty weak and i just wanted to do it to prove to myself i had the determination to get through it. It was the most physically demanding thing I've ever done. I never thought I'd be able to run 7 miles without stopping, ha. I finished the year averaging one win for every three matches, so by no means was I good. I was proud of myself though, it was one of the best things I've ever done.

same, i know this is an old thread, but no matter how much i work out i need my high school coach to drill me into the freakin ground to be in that shape again. and it is the best damn sport in the entire world
