I don't believe that pop-punk is a genre that should die. There is still quite a lot of good music out there in the genre. Like all genres there is good and their is appalling. But they balance each other out. If it weren't for bands like HH and Simple Plan than we wouldn't have anyone to compare the greatness of the bands that we love with. Second of all, I thought FOB's new CD was ALOT better than their older one. On the old one, all the songs sounded the same. The new one has a great amount of variety, better melodies, better musicianship, etc.

Indie is pretty popular right now, and hardcore will never be accepted by the mainstream. Pop punk won't open people up to new genres so much as it will get so big that kids will go find a new form of music that isn't bad, which companies will then co-opt and exploit. well in that sense all genres need to continue moving and developing or else they will become stagnant and die. there are also cycles in music, i.e. an extremely progressive movement will be followed by a back to basics movement. i guess you see pop-punk at the end of it's life cycle whereas i see it developing into something different and better (panic! at the disco). of course there will be bands who hopped on late who will be left behind, but that happens with all cycles.



i think at a high level we agree that music should progress, and everyone can agree on that. even though we listen to different things on our drives to work.

Indie is pretty popular right now, and hardcore will never be accepted by the mainstream. Pop punk won't open people up to new genres so much as it will get so big that kids will go find a new form of music that isn't bad, which companies will then co-opt and exploit. The point of this thread was half joking, but I do honestly think this genre has gone as far as it can. Metalcore is suffering from the same problem, and I admit that. Both of the scenes need to die, and when that happens, bands that are good at making music that belongs to those particular genres will survive, while those trying to capitalise on it will move on.

The title is a bit of a joke, but the point is I believe that this genre has gone as far as it can, and as soon as the industry is able to create a band to play this type of music, and they are able to sell, the genre has become a joke, and it is time to move on. That's not ridiculous, it's truth. You'd do well to learn that.

oh please, that's crap because it's not like this is the only band. This has been going on for years now. Click five just caught his attention but there're tons of other bands worse than this. Talent and skill mean nothing anymore and Dom is tired of this trend, it makes total sense.
