For those waiting for the next Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, or any other awesome Long Island band (there are a lot (http://longislandmusicscene.wikia.com) of bands that have been/are in the Long Island scene), I have a post for you.
Here are my recommendations. They are the bands/people who I think are going to make it off of the island.
NOTE: This list contains bands/artists from many different genres.
Stereo Skyline (http://www.myspace.com/stereoskyline) - models that make insanely catchy powerpop (instant teen girl favorite). The band managed by Ozone Entertainment (Metro Station, Boys Like Girls, We the Kings) and recently signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. These boys will, no doubt, be leaving the island.
Valet Parking (http://www.myspace.com/valetparking) - a great pop punk band from East Meadow, NY who recently recorded an EP at Vu Du Studios (Freeport, NY) with Mike Watts (As Tall As Lions, The Almost)
Life Between Sleep (http://www.myspace.com/lifebetweensleep) - a pretty sweet alternative rock band who recorded a song with Dan Gluszak of Envy on the Coast. Played on Taste of Chaos and Warped Tour.
Gabriel the Marine (http://www.myspace.com/gabrielthemarine) - a concept fueled indie rock band with a violin
Old Fashioned Oyster Crackers (http://www.myspace.com/ofoc) - a good old fashioned 90s ska band with a great vocalist and great music. If ska makes a comeback, these guys will be getting off the island.
Set In Color (http://www.myspace.com/setincolor) - formed by past members of Stereo Skyline, the band sounds much like Stereo Skyline before they changed genres from pop punk to powerpop.
Kerin Elisabeth (http://www.myspace.com/kerinelisabeth) - enchanting vocals (not paramore-ish) and nice piano.
There are many other bands/artists that I can mention, but these are just a select few.
Tell me if you enjoy these bands (and if you liked this post).

I'm talking about new bands coming out of long island. Bayside and This is Hell have both been out for a while.
You are a fuckign dumbass stop making Long Island look worse than it has been as of recently. No good music has come out of here in a long time and all of those bands you listed are average AT BEST. Oh and your project is another god awful electro project, do us all a favor and stop making music for 16 year old fat chicks.

You make no sense. How am I making Long Island look worse? How about you name some bands you think people should check out instead of trying to insult me and my music? I will never stop making music. You should stop listening to my music if you don't enjoy it. I enjoy electro music and I also love singing. You are quite an angry person.

Okay, so... Hotels of the Laughing Tree has a lot of potential. The mixing/mastering/recording is too messy though and sounds like a bunch of noise. I really dig the experimental nature of it though. It reminds me a lot of Brand New (Untitled Demos).

I was going to play keys and some percussion for them, but I'm too concentrated on other things. Don't know if they released the new mastered demo of Juniper, but it sounds so good. They recorded it with one of the guys in Edison Glass.
OFOC, ftw.
But yea, calling any of those the next TBS or Brand New should get you strangled/shot/hanged.

When I said that, I didn't mean that they would be the next TBS or Brand New in sound. I was talking about popularity. Even then, this list is really just bands I think are doing well.

I was harsh on you, so therefore I apologize. Nevertheless, none of those bands will reach that plateau. GTM has a nice sound but it can only go so far. Life Between Sleep can jam but they're too generic. Stereo Skyline has the most commercial appeal, but that only came after numerous lineup changes and transforming a group of fun college/high school kids into another marketing ploy.

Hey guys, I play guitar in Hotel of the Laughing Tree. Those demos were really really old, and we've taken them down now. In May we are recording a 7 song EP with Josh Silverberg of Edison Glass. Expect music to be back up around then. :-)

Yo guys, go check out Hotel of the Laughing Tree's new shit. They are tighttttt. I personally think they blow away Gabriel the Marine.
By the way, Life Between Sleep is currently kind of on a hiatus due to Robbie, their guitarist and vocalist, leaving to join Gabriel the Marine. I think that was a lame decision on his part due to the fact that LBS was heavy kick ass music and Gabriel is very mellow....but I guess Gabriel is going places faster than Life Between Sleep was so what are you gonna do?

Long Island music has gone to shit. Check out any show at the VP South, Vibe Lounge or Crazy Donkey, and its rare to find a good band. Any band getting big these days from Long Island lacks any sense of originality or talent.

Hey russell, it means a lot that you think OFOC is a good band. I honestly have never considered us a "good" band, more of a fun band that gets songs about dicks stuck in people's heads.

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be the difference between pop-punk and powerpop?
CstrzRock

Powerpop is much more heavily pop and uses more synthesizers.

Powerpop is much more heavily pop and uses more synthesizers.
Okay, I'll accept that.
Just from listening to the bands who claim to be "powerpop" and claim to be "pop punk", I don't hear that huge of a difference, but I see what you're saying.

Totally enjoyed reading this argument. And although I don't necessarily agree with the bands listed in the initial post (Valet Parking might be an exception, I'm curious as too what their new stuff will be like) I do think Long Island has potential in bands like Robbers, Crime In Stereo, Agent, hardcore bands like Backtrack and Incendiary and some more unnoticed/newer bands like Landing Project, Cue The Sun, Something Epic and a lot more.
Anyone interested in the Long Island scene should check out Long Island Music Scene Radio at myspace.com/limsradio. They play a wide variety of genres and bands all from the Long Island scene, most of which have no label support and support their own tours. It just started up too so if you know people in Long Island bands you should tell them to drop these guys an email and everyone should make requests to let em know what you want to hear.
Btw, I'm not a part of LIMSRadio or anything, I'm just excited about what they're doing and think people should check it out. I also post on here a lot but I just made a new username for my band (don't check us out for a couple months, recordings aren't quite ready). Just don't want anyone to think I'm on here just to promote.

There are a couple of pretty solid bands that have been over looked in this thread
Blameshift has self released a few records and has toured the whole country many times. They are kinda on the paramour tip but do offer a pretty good show www.myspace.com/blameshift (http://www.myspace.com/blameshift)
Black Suit Youth has put out some good records, they've done a bit of touring and have played some very big venues like Music Hall of Williamsburgh and did The Journey's Backyard BBq. www.myspace.com/blacksuityouth (http://www.myspace.com/blacksuityouth)
They Fall To Pieces is a friggin intense band
Magnetic North those guys just broke up to form ancient tongue and argotec, to alt rap projects, but when they existed they were very cool and real original www.myspace.com/magneticnorth (http://www.myspace.com/magneticnorth)
