So I played this game for the first time in over a year and the first thing I went to try and do was fight the two weapons. And well...suffice it to say...I still get my ass kicked each and every time. I am making a poll to see who here has actually beaten one or both of them and how.

I have tried a bunch of the tricks but still to no avail. I used mimic on knights of the round...i used final attack phoenix...etc. And nothing works :(

I beat them both and it was one of the greatest moments of my life. If I had the dedication now in real life that I did back when I played that game, I would probably be a millionaire already.
How'd I beat them? Knights of the Rounddddd.
Edit: Wow that didn't even work for you, hmmmm. What are all your stats at?

I have everyone in the 70's. I use Cloud, Barrett, and Cid. All have level 4 and ultimate weapons and ugggh. I tend to just get my ass handed after a long time. I guess I need to level up more. Boooo

I beat the Ruby weapon, only because my brother is the proud owner of a very good unauthorized strategy guide (I think it goes on ebay for like a $100+). This guide taught me crazy materia combos, and those crazy materia combos are why I enjoy FFVII so much.
I ran into Ruby by accident and got served bad. I avoided that fucker like the plague afterwards.
I was too lazy to work for stuff in FF games though so I never got Knights.

You have to use the materia (the one that lets you do the same thing twice) with knights of the round, and then do the mime or mimic. And you basically just used knights of the round the whole fight.
Also if you master (or whatever ever it's called, it's been a long time) final blow, and put phoneix on it, you can never die. I believe. Again it's been a long time.

I was replaying a while ago, and this is how I took down Ruby without breaking a sweat:
Get a mastered Command Counter materia, a Knights of the Round linked to an HP Absorb, and a ribbon. You can also equip a W-Summon or a Master Summon linked with an MP Turbo. Now kill off the other two party memeber, and go into battle. Make sure you have enough HP and defense to not be killed in a single blow. Cast Knights of the Round, and then sit back and watch Ruby be utterly destroyed, since everytime he attacks Cloud (or whichever character you decide to use for this), Cloud will counter-attack with Knights of the Round and regain all of his HP back. You don't even have to do any work, as the battle will basically be fought for you.

I'm fairly certain I read that exact section in a magazine once. One way or another, that's a really, really good idea, and if you came up with it, you really are the kung fu panda.
Also, I have no chance against these two. They are impossible to beat straight up. There is no way you can even touch them without some serious strategy. Those bastards are freaking impossible.

emerald was always easy. like everyone else said, knights of the round + mimic and final attack with phoenix and you cant lose. and if you knew the w-item trick, you could have infinite mega elixers. what i could never do though is kill ruby cause of how it always made you sink in the sand and automatically die. what did you get from beating him anyways?

I read about it in a FAQ that a friend of mine gave me in the 6th grade. The entire materia system gives off endless possiblities on how to take down the Weapons.

You get a Desert Rose from him.
