This is long but for my mixes that I will post here to make any sense, please read.
Since the age of 13, I have been making mix CDs. I recently decided to start sharing them with you, the APnet community. Because I have made over 50 in the last 8 years (very few of which share songs), I decided to roll them out to you slowly.
There are two sets of what I like to call canonical mixes. One has the artist 'Quiksilver' (came up with it when i was 13, I don't remember why I chose it) and the other has the artist 'The Stranger' (after the book). I changed artist names in college because my musical tastes had changed so much I figured I would change the artist too. I still make Quiksilver records but that name is reserved for 'harder' music now. I have the artists in this way because it keeps the mixes together in iTunes and other various programs. It is important that they remain in order (I work hardest on making the songs flow right) or they won't sound as good.
There are a handful on non-canonical mixes I have made for various occasions (eg my Valentines day mix or my Summer acoustic mix made for the General mix exchange) that I will also post.
Keep in mind these span years of learning about music, learning about what I like, and learning how to make them sound as good as possible together (including minor wave editing and so on). Constructive criticism is welcomed for the more recent ones but I'd rather you not bash a record I made when I was 16 and heartbroken or something.
Otherwise, the 'Album art' pictures will contain links to the mixes. I will also list some of the real artists so you can avoid getting ones full of bands you hate.
Enjoy.

Clayton! You are the perfect person to ask for this. Can you make a mix of classical music? I want something to listen to while I study that doesn't have lyrics so I don't get distracted haha

Hmm well I actually just stole a bunch of classical music from my roommate's computer so I think I'm good. :-)
I saw you post the first one before and I meant to grab it. I'll be getting them later for sure.

She will enjoy it. She has a surprisingly good taste in music. Manchester Orchestra, Kings of Leon, Muse, and Ray LaMontagne are her favorites. She also enjoys Iron & Wine. That's why I gave it to her. I was surprised at how well the whole thing meshed. Some songs seamlessly led into others, and it was less like just a bunch of songs and more a group of artists waiting for their turn to play in the same room. That's how I felt, anyway.

The first one I ever made. Not a bad mix for a first try and being 13 and only getting music from the radio and MTV. Its random, older (Late 90s), popular rock(ish) songs.

Here is the long awaited Valentines Day Mix. It is a solid 36 song mix of both cliché love ballads and more indie type ballads. Its a mix that will keep her (him?) smiling with Journey and Chicago but make you happy with Ben Folds and Ray LaMontagne. This isn't a record to fuck to or makeout to but it will help get you there as good dinner, dancing and convo starting tunes. As always, input is appreciated.
This is a 2 part download BTW

I have been super busy lately but I will up at least one older one tonight. I have been working on several. One seasonal acoustic/singer/songwriter mix, one that I can best describe as my "In Defense of the Genre" in scope and story telling style, and one Fight! mix for an upcoming wrestling match Im color commentating.
Any suggestions on style of record Ill up tonight? I have many many to post still.
Also, not too long from now ll release my 5 part epic story mix, The Wasteland and its one part Bsides(songs that I would have put on it if I knew they existed). Expect that in March, it is my proudest accomplishment and Im stoked to unleash it soon.
Just thought this thread could use more Claytons...here's the only true "mix tape" I have on my iTunes. It's an instrumental mix I really enjoy.

Anton, Mandi and other Midtown lovers rejoice! Today I bring you 2 mixes full of Midtown goodness.
The first, Clocks, was made at some point in high school. It was about the time the song Clocks by Coldplay was initially popular. It has older Midtown, Trust Company, the Used, and single songs by several other artists. I loved this one when I finished it and ti will always be special to me. Enjoy!
http://i41.tinypic.com/23kzom1.jpg (http://www.mediafire.com/?ndimtadnmik)
ps, it is missing track three. That was an encoding mistake I never fixed haha. Feel free to make track 4 track 3 and so on.
The second is called Listen. It has FWYK Midtown, WYWTB Taking Back Sunday, couple of Lost prophet songs and then some singles. This was the middle of the series where I defined myself to myself as a mix maker. Those three I made at the end of HS were some of my best still.

Im glad theres demand. I have decided however to finish Great Expectations soon. That will be a 2 cd long story told in retrospective HIMYM style sans narration. Im still debating if I want to make the story linear or not. The idea to make it random order comes from my interactions with a person with mixed dementia. He would tell me stories but there would be no linearity to them. He would flow from being 17 to being 40 without missing a beat. But this will be a 30+ track mix full of GLA and other randoms. I really like this idea and hope for your support.
Also, I finished my fight! mix if anyone wants it. I think I need to shorten it a tad before I can send it out.

The Stranger - My Acoustic Record 2: Brighter Days & Cooler Nights
This is the second of my infinite series of acoustic mixes. I'm extremely pleased with how it came out. It begins with a 'sunrise' followed by morning/daytime songs then in the middle is a sunset interlude followed by night time songs. Enjoy!
Its a 2 part download again. Part one is Brighter Days and Part two is Cooler Nights. They are in the same mediafire folder

QuikSilver - Great Expectations. Gaslight Anthem, The Living End, and seemingly random songs from FOB, Deftones, STD, Alk Trio, Bloc Party, NFG and more
I find the title quite ironic. I keep having this ideas, these visions of grandeur about what my story mixes should be. They never live up to these ideals (maybe with the exception of the Wasteland) and it makes me so self conscious about my own work. It shouldn't be this way when Im making it for myself and now Im adding more pressure by giving it to all of you. But I do this to myself and though I know none of you are going to actually read this or try to understand the story that I made this music tell, I hope at least one person learns something or even likes it. The story I attempted to tell is as follows:
Imagine yourself a young high school or college student. And for a class you are forced to do community service. You are almost done but there is an annoying, measly hour and a half you have to burn through. You hear from a friend the easiest way is to hang out with an old dude at the nearby nursing home. You like this lazy idea and go for it. The day you come by, a normally silent old gentleman asks to talk to the next volunteer, this is, of course, you. He begins to tell you the story of his life How I Met Your Mother style. However, this man has mixed dementia (a type of Alzheimer's) so this story jumps around. Much like Billy in Slaughterhouse 5 or Desmond in Lost, this man's brain is unstuck in time. It isn't difficult to discern the more youthful stories over the more aged ones. He tells stories of love, loss, pain and rejection. As he goes on, he being to become slower to speak, more labored and as he finishes he shuffles back to his room. You walk away seeing a not so uncommon future for yourself and you make a promise to yourself to not be like him, not to throw away his loved ones and rot in a home. You go back to his room to thank him to find he has passed. You sigh and return to your life but with new perspective and a new lust to enjoy life while you have it.
The record is his story. The more poppy songs are from his youth whereas the sadder, slow ones are from his more recent past. Some songs make sense with its predecessor and successor while some don't. Some songs he may or may not be referring to you when he says you. Some songs are meant to be set in the present to highlight his senility (WAMS, I Still Remember) and some are to be directly into the story with no interruption. I like this story even though none of you have actually read it and therefore won't get it. Whatever, I don't care anymore.

The Stranger - Dismantle
-Mute Math, Anberlin, ETIS, Brand new, Jack Johnson, The Forecast and more.
This one is the best tale I could tell about feeling inadequate in this world and longing for something more. And finding that something and it testing you. It begins full of hope, metaphors and rationalities, and ends with an incredible pain from a loss. We all lose things, people, possessions, money, ourselves. This addresses all of these either directly or indirectly. This is part 1 of the two part Dismantle.Repair. story. Obviously the Repair part is a way to get on with your life after loss. Ill have Repair up by next Tuesday, assuming I remember lol. Hope you all like it.

The Stranger - Repair
-Minus the Bear, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Anberlin
This is the conclusion to Dismantle Repair. As I said, this is about getting on with your life after a loss or some other form of damage. The main point here is chill the fuck out, talk about it rationally and be content in your current situation and stuff has a way of fixing itself. Theres probably more to it but its up to you to figure that out.

The Stranger - A Song of a Man Who Has Come Though
-Scrubs OST, The Last Kiss OST, Other random songs I liked at the time without the rock edge that I think alot of QS records had.
This is my first ever Stranger mix. After the Wasteland , I was burnt out and tired of making Quiksilver records. I felt like I had to continue bettering myself. Fed up with it all and realizing that my musical tastes were changing drastically (thank you APnet), I chose to change the artist name to reflect Albert Camus' The Stranger. Its how I felt in this strange college world, its how i felt with all of my new friends and my old ones. I felt like a stranger to all of them and most of the time to myself. This was a great effort and I am really pleased with the result.

Quiksilver - You're Cute When You Scream
-Senses fail, Underoath, The Secret Lives of the Freemasons, others
My first and only foray into hardcore music, this record does rock. It rocks pretty hard. When I'm late for stuff or really pissed, this record finds itself in my CD player time and time again. Not much diversity but I don't really care for hardcore music either so take it or leave it. Not every song is screamy but every song fits with the theme of 'I have never done this before but Im being as loud as I can'

Quiksilver - Lost
-Thrice, Manchester Orchestra, Gaslight Anthem, others
Yes, this is named after the TV show. Yes, this has religious overtones. Yes, it has that damn Sex on Fire song by Kings of Leon.
Pardon my snarkiness. Honestly, I love this record. Its one of the best Quiksilver records I've done in years. Its what a mix should be.

The Stranger - Alive
-The Dangerous Summer, John Nolan, Ace Enders, Jimmy Eat World, Mansions
I made this after getting robbed during a delivery. Those dudes coulda killed me for the 20 bucks in my pocket. I left that scene grateful to be alive. So I decided to make a really positive album. Mostly upbeat songs. Very few repeated artists too. This is the closest to my old mix style that I've gotten to in a while. Just random songs that I like, together, in a way that makes sense.

My current project (besides Acoustic 3) is very similar in style to this one but more like my recent mixes with fewer artists and more songs by each.

The Stranger - My Acoustic Record 3: True to Form
I have been working on this one since before I posted Brighter Days, Cooler Nights. I literally scoured my entire music library of 9000 tracks and picked good acoustic songs. After that, I whittled and whittled until this set of 20 was all that was left. This one is much more mellow then my previous two. Most songs are nothing but a guy and his guitar. True to form. I always try to impress with these so I hope the delay was worth it for you all.

Look forward to My Acoustic Record IV: A New Hope coming in 2011
Also for My Acoustic Record V: The Empire Strikes Back sometime before the end of the world in 2012

Yeah, when i started I thought .rars had become more standard but it turned out you still needed winrar to open them. My bad.
But youll see it used a bit around here, especially if you make it to MO.

Couple of old ones for the old ones
Quiksilver - All These Things That I've Done
-Muse, Straylight Run, couple other songs
This one has a different style than most. It has 2 beginnings and 2 ends. It starts slowly with more piano driven and melodic tunes and then ends after the 8th song. It restarts with more upbeat dance type music and goes on for the next 11 songs. This one is kind of uncreative, I basically use 2 artists the whole time but Im proud of the idea. It is one of my favorites and I hope its yours.

EDIT: Fixed link :D
Quiksilver - Won't Back Down
-Chevelle, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Dardevil Soundtrack, and some others
This was the 9th mix I made way back in 2003. It features popular 2003 songs. Since this year occurred when most of you were 10, these songs will be new to you.

So I discovered this website called 8tracks for sharing mixes but as a stream rather than a download. Because of how I make my mixes, the only one I could upload is the Valentines day one. So here you go. A slightly updated Valentines mix!

The Stranger - Broken
-Stars, Broken Social Scene, Minus the Bear, Metric
This one has been a long time coming. I've had the base for several months now and it took me forever to iron out the details. Its a bit shorter than many of my previous efforts but i did what I had to to maintain a good flow. When I finished, and gave it a first listen, I did realize something different about this one. This mix is great to... how do it put this delicately... fuck to. Hell, anything with MTB makes a great sex mix. It has good rise and fall, lots of energy with a few chill out portions. Give it a shot next time you are hooking up with your favorite booty call or significant other.

QuikSilver - Fight Off Your Demons
Brand New - Devil and God + Copeland - Eat Sleep Repeat
Made during a very depressing and hopeful time of my life. The BN represents the bad and the Copeland represents the good. I like the contrast.

Dedicated to Megan, for giving me a reason to finish
This has been a long time coming. This has been a playlist in multiple iterations for nearly a year. I finally found the motivation to complete it. Its upbeat, fun, great to drive to, and enjoyable to anyone. I hope you all like it.
