I've written some songs for my band that I'm pretty damn proud of...
BUT they sound really empty without a guitar solo in them.
I've writen like 5 different solos but they all suck and now I just can't write anything :-(
Does anyone else get this kind of writer's block? What can I do about it?
HELP!!!!!!!!!

What's the chord progression?
Let's pull a Rivers Cuomo- you post the chord progression, and we'll record solos and you can pick one.

You sure they need a guitar solo? That's the first thing.
Second, you've just got to craft your solo like a melody. Don't lose sight of the song as a whole.

if you can't write a solo based on feel and a slight relation to the melody, then you need to rethink even playing them. or practice more.

The chord progression is A, B, E, G# (it's in E major)
It only needs to be like 4 bars long.... The song just sounds kinda pathetic without some kinda musical interlude....

Well I consider you make the song itself a little better instead of a solo that will hopefully save the whole thing from being a disaster
The whole song should be good not one part.

I agree with this. Don't rely on solos or cool guitar parts to save your song. The hardest part of being in a band is writing songs with other people. Make sure the choices you make as a band make the SONGS good, not PARTS of the song. It takes a lot longer to write, but the end result is much more satisfying. My band used to write songs in 2 hours, but lately we've been taking an upwards of 10 to 15 hours to write a song (obviously you don't need to shoot for a time, but this is an example of putting more thought into songs as a whole). Most importantly, don't get too stressed out or it's not worth doing!
