This is bullshit...
regardless of whether or not you agree with what the guy says, there is an amendment in our bill of rights that gives every american the freedom of speach. Limbaugh can tell the president to eat dog shit if he wants. Wouldn't be appropriate, and would be downright rude, but i'm pretty sure thats what that amendment is all about. if people don't like what he's saying, then DONT LISTEN. he's not forcing anyone to listen to his show.

Democrats Launch Petition Against Rush Limbaugh After Firing Back at Obama

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launches an online petition to express outrage at Rush Limbaugh after he said he wanted President Obama to fail.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has launched an online petition (http://www.dccc.org/page/petition/rush) to express outrage at conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh for saying he wanted President Obama to "fail."
"Jobs, health care, our place in the world -- the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," the petition reads. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks -- sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."
The petition comes after Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill Friday that they need to quit listening to Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.
One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.
On Monday, Limbaugh shot back at Obama, opening his show by saying, "I'm the man you should not be listening, according to President Obama."
"I think [Obama] wants me to fail," Limbaugh said. "He's more frightened of me than he is of John Boehner, which doesn't say much for our party."

Alright. And I choose to ignore his constitutionally-protected opinions.

I don't exactly know what you were inferring based on my last statement, but I wasn't questioning the legality of anything.

As a freedom loving patriot, I could never support a petition to silence your opinion. I can however, still regard yours as silly. :-p

Oh snaaaap! Okay, as for the rest of my argument...

I'm fine with a petition against Rush Limbaugh, because that's freedom of speech in itself. Rush probably wants this attention because more people are going to listen to him spout off.

However, my form of protest against his opinions is to just ignore him.

Fuck him. Despite that a petition to shut him up because he is against Obama is wrong. However, right wing radio spouts hateful, racist, unintelligent crap by the boatfull but still manage to keep sponsors. If Imus got dropped for the "nappy headed hos" comment than don't you think guys like these should as well?

"Muslims don't eat during the day during Ramadan. They fast during the day and eat at night. Sort of like cockroaches."
— Host NEAL BOORTZ, on the Aug. 14 edition of Cox Radio Syndication's "The Neal Boortz Show," discussing dietary restrictions during Islamic holy days

"Media Matters is a gay, fascist website. … They're utter vermin."
— Host MICHAEL SAVAGE, on the Sept. 26 edition of Talk Radio Network's "Savage Nation," discussing a website that publishes transcripts of his controversial remarks quotes on this page were compiled from media accounts, web pages, e-mail groups and media matters for america, a website that monitors the far right

"[Y]ou can look at statistics. Indians are lazy. I've seen the numbers."
— BOB DUMAS, host of WDCG-FM's "Bob and the Showgram" in Raleigh, N.C., in an April 1 anti-American Indian diatribe that resulted a three-day unpaid suspension

"Down there in New Orleans, it was basically a parasite class totally dependent on government for their existence."
— NEAL BOORTZ, on the June 19 edition of Cox Radio Syndication's "The Neal Boortz Show," attacking mainly black victims of Hurricane Katrina as he compared them unfavorably to the mostly white victims of flooding in the upper Midwest this summer

And of course Rush Limabugh's "Magic negro" comments.

wouldnt all of this revert back to freedom of speech??
The only reason Obama mentioned rush is because the democrats have been trying to
silence CONSERVATIVE talk radio. Mostly because liberal talk radio ratings, for lack of a better word, suck, and democrats fear they're propaganda wont be absorbed.
Hes gone after Sean Hannity far more. Hence they're proposal for reinstating the "fairness doctrine". Which isnt fair at all. Its actually a great plan for dems, let us take up half of your time and then watch your shows tank. This goes beyond conservatives/liberals, its all of our rights to say and listen to what we want. It boils down to censorship and thats bad for all of us.

so wait. rush limbaugh says something dumb. that's protected by free speech.

the democrats make a petition expressing outrage, but that's not protected? you guys need to stop being partisian whores. Telling someone to shut the fuck up is not taking away their free speech rights.

Yes. It's merely an expression of an opinion. If they were passing a resolution that he shouldn't be able to say what he said or a resolution punishing him for what he said then his free speech rights would be violated, but they aren't. Free speech isn't so sacred that one can say whatever they want and ignore the consequences of their speech, namely that other people will get pissed off and react in a way. As long as he isn't be punished for expressing his views or being forced to be quiet, then his rights aren't being violated.

i mean, are you fucking serious? Have you never been in an argument with someone and told them to shut the fuck up? Did you think they you were violating their rights?

I just don't understand why you guys think Rush Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he wants, but democrats don't have the right to express their opinion that he should shut up.

this. plus it's only going to make the democratic party look like a bunch of crack jobs for trying to silence someone's civil rights.

they aren't "trying to silence someone's civil rights". they're telling him he shouldn't say what he's saying. There's a huge difference between that and telling him that he can't.

example: if someone was using homophobic slurs at a show i was at, i would tell them to stop. does that mean I'm taking away their free speech? No, they could continue and I wouldn't advocate a law to make them stop. It's just saying stop being an idiot. we say things like this all the time and it's not considered a free speech issue.

well considering this is a nonbinding petition, i'm pretty sure it's not taking that much time at all away from anything else. especially if this is being done in the spirit of bipartisianship (ie: yeah you guys lost but you probably shouldn't be saying you hope we fail since we're all on this together)
